Clarifying that he was speaking for himself and not on behalf of the BJP, Jethmalani said Narendra Modi is BJP's best bet for Prime Minister of India's post.
On being questioned whether Modi's 'communal' links will come in the way, Jethmalani said, "Secular and communal are words that have become words of abuse today. People are using them indiscriminately without even understanding what they mean or signify".
Going further, he said, "Modi is the most impeccably secular leader in India. In fact, he is 100% secular".
On the criticism faced by the Gujarat strongman over teh Gujarat riots of 2002, Jethmalani said, "Modi's enemies are spoiling his name through false claims to deliberately put him down."
However, he refused to speculate on possibility of Sushma Swaraj's running for the top post.
When reminded that Nitish Kumar and Sharad Yadav of the JD(U) have threatened to walk out of the NDA alliance if Narendra Modi is nominated as BJP candidate for PM, Jethmalani said nothing of the sort will happen, "The JD(U) will remain part of the NDA," he said.
The latest outburst from within the BJP comes quickly in the wake of Yashwant Sinha himself endorsing Narendra Modi as the best man in BJP to be PM.

NDA has gone through very difficult times and more so in the starring phase of 2013... I think the NDA will defeat UPA but the question arises that how it can be possible if NDA does not have a good choice of PM. They have many choices like Sushma Swarj, Arun Jately, Mr. LK Advani and Narender Modi. But again the question arises Projecting Narender Modi will give them benefit in more votes and losing allies. Projecting Sushma Swarj will again gather votes but as not too much, is the choice of their longest allies Shiv Sena. So my advice very correctly took the whole National Democratic Allies(NDA) decision.

I have seen many people using the word secular, but in reality they don't care about secularism. All they are after is vote bank politics. This so called most secular party was responsible for anti sikh riots. Where was congress' secularism at that time? Modi on its part have atleast done great develoment and gujarat is much secure as compared to our national capita.
Someone should ask the Supreme Court to investigate 1984 riots and Rajiv's role in it, just like they are harassing Modi. Both Rajiv and Sonia are guilty of killing 1000s of Sikhs in 1984. Why do not secular forces fight in the same way as they do against Modi? IE's archives will have lots of evidences against Rajiv and COngress for the role in 1984 riots. May be IE can start a PIL
Can Jethmalani please explain why Modi has not been able to find the murderer of his minister Haren Pandya - who was a key witness against Modi and supposedly opposed the taking out of the procession of dead bodies in Ahmedabad? Also why have many key witnesses been liquidated in fake encounters? Modi is very competent in presenting an efficient image. Why is he incompetent in ensuring rule of law, but more importantly, finding out the murder of his own main opponent in politics? How come Modi becomes competent for some things, but then becomes totally helpless and incompetent for anything where killings are involved? - and he is a potential suspect. Blood stains everywhere around Modi. There can't be smoke without fire. So much blood without a cause??
Th readings of Mr Ram Jethmalani and Mr Yeshwant Sinha are spot on. If BJP does not declare Mr Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate, the party has just zero chance of coming back to power, after tolerating Mr Yeddyurappa for far too long and more recently with its own President's forays in dubious deals. When people find the leadership in BJP no different from Congress, they may even decide to opt for Kejriwal's Party for a change.

Narendra modi will be the next prime minister of our country..he is the most secular person on earth..he has taken gujarat into new heights the same will be repeated in india under his leadership..there is a conspiracy within the bjp to let him down and a larger conspiracy by the media people..If narendra bhai is not made to lead the party in 2014 i promise the bjp will not be able to come to power at all.If there is a change in the constitution for the post of prime minister elected directly by the people..i challenge the entire media that more than eighty percent of the votes will go in favour of mr.modi.
