Surat Maulana Ghulam Mohd Vastanvi, who was sacked as the vice-chancellor of Darul Uloom Deoband for allegedly praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday said it was a crime to praise a “zalim” (tyrant) and that he never praised Modi.

Addressing a rally organised by the minority cell of the Congress party at Tarkeshwar in Mandvi taluka of Surat district, he said, “I have never praised Narendra Modi...to praise a tyrant is a crime.”

He told the audience not to vote for Modi in the upcoming

Assembly elections and instead vote for the Congress.

“Sadbhavna Mission carried out in state is like deception and (there is) nothing more in it. In 2012 elections, we have to kick Narendra Modi out and give votes to the Congress party and for this all communities should unite...Modi has won twice and people know what is going on in the BJP as Keshubhai Patel has left the party and formed his own party,” Vastanvi told the gathering.

Gujarat Elections by Ahmer on 22 Oct 2012

modi is trying to win by consolidating the hindu vote which will be very bad for indian secularism. The ulema should work towards a Muslim and patel alliance to defeat his nefarious design like they did in UP.

Vastanvi by hrr on 23 Oct 2012

Yes he is a tyrant and consolidates Hindu vote. Your suggestion Ulema is to fight Hindu consolidation encouraging another Hindu. Your goal is als the same to divide and rule to subjugate Hindus and dispose off the country to an outside blood.

Molana Relax by Skylarc on 22 Oct 2012

Looks Vastanvi has not been paid as promised by Modi. Poor guy, who is he to to advise against Modi? Till yesterday he was asking Muslims to forget what happened in 2002. Please Molana keep shut you are very well known by Muslims whether you are with Modi or Congress or with Communists or who else can pay him more. He was fired by the Shura of Darul Uloom and he will remain the only Rector fired in the history of Darul Uloom. Molana sit at home in air con and plush sofas and eat kari, khichri with pure ghee from the money you still have.

Vastanvi does not see the complete picture by Quixote on 22 Oct 2012

Mr. Vastanvi, what does Islam say about supporting corruption? Is it not a crime too? If so, shouldn't you also tell people not to support the parties and politicians who have made corruption an integral part of Indian life and the leaders who have turned a blind eye to it.

LOL by nikhil on 22 Oct 2012

Vastanvi might be correct in before part of his statement...but his second part of statement: vote congress must be wrong..hahaha

Look inside for answers by sksvram on 22 Oct 2012

My dear minority community brothers you call godhra as incident and others as pogroms organised by right wing groups. shame on you. There is a lot of s**t on your back.Clean them first and talk about others later. why do you (minority communities) give them(right wing) a chance to react when you are source of that act.just cut a action you will see there is no reaction. be rational do not make partial judgements.

MODI - a right perfect picture for gujrat by Raghu Reddy on 22 Oct 2012

the big problem in india every fellow can talk any word as they wish - khooni of democracy - anyways i find Modi almost 1000 times better than any cong rulers in gujrat state.Take AP as example Sonia and congress literally blamed YS rajshekar reddy - who was hero in AP politics - arrested his son when he is dead- result congress got to dogs.......so other than casting your vote even for just born independent party , is good rather casting it to CONGRESS////all my best luck to Modi - he will win-in gujrat

He remains a saviour by Sudhirb on 22 Oct 2012

It is your perception. Some consider him tyrant, many more times consider him a saviour. It is assertions like yours that consolidate the others in favour of Modi.

Not Modi? Then who? by Umang Trivedi on 22 Oct 2012

Let us assume that Narendra Modi is a culprit. Let us assume that Narendra Modi is a tyrant. Let us assume that we will bring congress on power in Gujarat. But, who will be the CM candidate from Congress for Gujarat? I do not see any contender for the chair from the opposition. Congress has failed miserably to even challenge the Narendra Modi fort. Castle is built by bricks. Narendra Modi is a strong foundation for the invincible fort of BJP in Gujarat. Does congress has even a brick here? I fear not !!

Vastanvi is telling the fact by Naim S Syed on 22 Oct 2012

What Vastanvi said is known to every Gujarati in particular and Indian in particular. Even if we believe that Vastanvi was not misquoted earlier and he has a change of mind now, it doesn't make Modi different from what he is - an ordinary street political hoodlum who had been catapulted to higher pedestal by RSS just because he had arranged the successful Muslim pogroms without being caught. Gujarat was a state of Gandhi and able businessmen that include the Muslim business communities like Bohras, Memons, Khojas and Chillias etc. Nothing to do with Modi. The Godhra incident was windfall for RSS and Modi. He radicalized the Gujarati society on religious lines. Congress has done nothing concrete to counter the onslaught of RSS propaganda. The dilemma of Gujarat is no different from the morass in which the whole country is sinking now. We have have Vadras and Ambanis, DLF's and Gadkaris; we have Kejriwals and Mamtas..frying pans and fires. Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink

v c by NIKHIL on 22 Oct 2012

During 2001-04, the rate of industrial growth for Gujarat was 3.95%, and during 2005-09, it was 12.65%. In isolation, this appears to be a phenomenal jump, but not so when compared to some other states. During these sub-periods, industrial growth for Orissa was 6.4% and 17.53%; for Chhattisgarh 8.10% and 13.3%; and for Uttarakhand 18.84% and 11.63%. Thus, the hitherto industrially backward states have far surpassed Gujarat

v c by vipal on 22 Oct 2012

During 1995-2000 and 2001-10, Gujarat increased its annual rate of growth from 8.01% to 8.68%. But so is the case with other major states such as Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. In fact, Gujarat was ranked second after Rajasthan (8.34%) in the first period and third after Uttarakhand (11.81%) and Haryana (8.95%) in the second period. What is remarkable, Bihar and Orissa, the two most backward and poverty-stricken states, have also shown growth pick up from 4.70% and 4.42% in the first period to 8.02% and 8.13% in the second period. Even smaller states like Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh have registered growth of 11.01% and 8.96%, respectively.

v c by chirag on 22 Oct 2012

For the last several years, Modi has been successful in projecting his "vibrant Gujarat" as a role model of economic growth and himself as ''Vikas Purush". Though one must give due credit to Modi for his effective skills in making projections, one must also critically analyse this "growth story of Gujarat" based on facts and figures. Regretfully, as one examines the facts since Modi came to power in Gujarat in 2001, the story appears to be hollow and, at times, contrary to what is being projected.

v c by arjun on 22 Oct 2012

First Modi must answer where are the missing children of Gujarat...he must answer what happened in 2002, he must answer who killed Haren Pandya, he must answer that why no Lokayukta in Gujarat, he must answer what CAG report says about his corrupt...before the even think to be PM

V C by sagar on 22 Oct 2012

The whole world knows that Modi can not become the PM, he and bjp are doing this drama of Modi being the PM is not to become the PM but to sustain as CM....shame on him

v s by chetan on 22 Oct 2012

How can Modi and his followers could forget that there is no no development in rural and tribal areas of Gujarat? Modi has hired PR agencies to project himself as man of development and one who can become the PM but the reality on grass root is totally different. Modi has allowed industrialist to loot Gujarat and if he becomes PM, he will let entire world to loot India...
