Mumbai Former India cricketer Nayan Mongia has been asked by a local court to settle his dispute with his mother or approach a Lok Adalat here on Sunday to resolve her complaint of domestic violence against him.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate DK Mulla made the suggestion to Mongia on September 12 while hearing a complaint filed by Mongia's mother Gyandevi alleging torture and domestic violence by his son and daughter-in-law.

"This a matter that involves your family and its better if you sort out the things," the judge suggested to Mongia while hearing his mother's complaint, seeking monthly maintenance and Rs 7 lakh spent by her on medical expenses following a recent bypass surgery.

69-year-old Gyandevi had claimed that after her husband's death two years ago, she was ill-treated by her son and daughter-in-law. She was forced to stay with her daughter in Mumbai since March last year.

Gyandevi has also alleged Mongia had refused to part with a portion of the family property which her husband had allotted to her in his will. Mongia has contested the will also, his lawyer Kshitji Mehta said.

Mongia has challenged the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter saying they were residents of Vadodara and hence, the Borivali court could not hear the matter. The court has yet to pass an order on the issue of jurisdiction.

Mongia also denied that her mother was subjected to domestic violence. There was no such violence committed on her, his lawyer told the court.

The court, meanwhile, has asked Gyandevi to explain in details how she was subjected to domestic violence and deferred the hearing of her complaint to October 10.
