Nine members of robbers’ gang arrested

Kolkata, August 22 The police have arrested nine members of a gang, which was involved in four cases of theft in the city.

“The gang robbed four shops in central Kolkata and was capable of committing bigger crimes,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) Jawed Shamim.

“The gang had gathered a sizeable quantity of arms and ammunition in various parts of north and central Kolkata like Bowbazar, Paikpara and Shyambazar,” Shamim added.

According to the police, three members of the gang were arrested from the city's fringes on August 14 and 15. “After interrogating them, we arrested six others from various parts of north Kolkata. We recovered five firearms and 23 rounds of live ammunition from them,” the Deputy Commissioner of Police said.
