Nitish surely PM material: BJP’s Sushil Kumar Modi

Our ties rock solid: Modi

Patna Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is “surely prime minister material and will play an important role in the 2014 elections”, his deputy and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi has said.

In an interview to The Indian Express, the Bihar Deputy CM said: “Nitish Kumar is surely PM material. As CM of an important state and valued ally of the BJP, he will definitely play a very important role in the 2014 elections. But he has said the larger party in an alliance alone can have PM nominee to ensure a stable government.”

Modi also asserted there was no question of Nitish joining the UPA. A crucial mediator between BJP and JD(S) in the state, the Deputy CM said the BJP knew Nitish was staunchly anti-Congress. “Our alliance is rock solid. There is no chance of him boarding the Congress’s sinking boat.”

The speculation that the UPA was wooing Nitish had been triggered by the decision to grant the state two central universities and clearing of Rs 2,500 crore payment under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Modi said the row over the site of the central university was a sign of the Congress’s “divisive politics”. Playing down the PMGSY grant, he said the money actually was cumulative dues of three years.

The BJP leader also denied that the Naroda Patiya verdict would impact the party’s poll chances as well as the probable projection of Gujarat CM Narendra Modi as PM candidate. “The verdict will not hurt us because the Congress is burdened with corruption,” he said. “As the next election will be fought over corruption, it will not succeed in making it a Rahul Gandhi versus Narendra Modi debate. In any case, the NDA has not announced its PM candidate.”

Only Modi by hhh on 12 Sep 2012

Nitish Kumar belongs to congress, he is doing harm to BJP by staying inside. He's not secular because he's anti hindu. Modi has done great things in Gujarat, He will be the PM. If BJP dont accepts Modi as next PM then it will be defeated again.

Nitish surely PM material: BJP’s Sushil Kumar Modi by Balachandran Nair V on 03 Sep 2012

In case a coalition Mr. Arun Jaitly of BJP would best choice for PM from BJP. Government will be stable only when the PM is from the largest party of the coalition. If BJP alone can manage majority then Mr. Narendra Modi is best choice for the PM- across the party line

Mad by Basanta Kumar Paul on 03 Sep 2012

I think a mad dog might have bite Mr. Sushil Kr. Modi. Unnecessarily created a controversy to the paid media of congress. Nitish Kumar does not have quality to become Prime Minister. What has he done for Bihar? People of Bihar in large number are still migrating to other state for livelihood. If he is capable he would have solve this problem first. Basically he is playing a game to divide BJP leadership to make him PM candidate, which is his dream and it remain dream for him forever.

Nitish Kumar by Joy on 03 Sep 2012

I agree that Nitish is perhaps the best choice for PM after next election. It is amazing that he has been able to bring about good improvement in a State virtually lawless and looted by Lalu and Co.for years. He has proved to be honest, competent and genuinely interested in people instead of promoting his family and cronies.Men like Narendra Modi can do well in Gujarat,a well-developed State in spite of being a communalist, pampering big business with little concern for the rural poor.He is the creation of the media and big business houses and can hardly match Nitsih in acceptability.
