Lucknow The twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida accounted for a whopping 87 per cent of the total jobs generated in the top six cities of Uttar Pradesh (UP) between January-December 2012, a trend is likely to continue in 2013, says a study by Assocham.

A total of over 65,300 new jobs were generated in six major cities of – Agra, Allahabad, Aligarh, Kanpur, Lucknow, Noida and Greater Noida – during the year.

About 31,900 jobs were created in the first six months and about 33,400 jobs in the second half of 2012, according to a sector specific analysis titled 'Job Trends Across India in 2012'.

With about 56,800 jobs, Noida and Greater Noida together accounted for about 87 per cent of the jobs created in the state during the period under review, the study said. It was followed by Lucknow (over 4,700 jobs, with over 7 per cent), Kanpur (over 1,600 jobs, with about 2.5 per cent), Agra (over 1,300 jobs with about 2 per cent), Allahabad (over 1,100 jobs with over 1.5 per cent) and Aligarh (over 550 jobs, less than 1 per cent share), it added.

"While 2012 saw a decline of over 21 per cent in the job generation in various sectors of the Indian economy, the job generation growth in UP declined at an average of about 12.5 per cent during the year gone by," Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat said.

"A total of over 5.3 lakh jobs were generated during the aforesaid period across India, i e over 2.8 lakh jobs in first half of the year and over 2.4 lakh jobs during the remaining period of the calendar year 2012," he said.

"Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) topped as over 1.1 lakh jobs were generated between January 1 and December 15, 2012, followed by Mumbai (over 77,000 jobs), Bangalore (over 75,000 jobs), Chennai (over 44,000 jobs) and least number of jobs were generated in Kolkata (over 25,000 jobs) among the top five metro centres," said Rawat.

In UP, information technology (IT) and IT enabled services (IT/ITeS) sector remained on top with over 28,800 jobs, followed by banking, insurance and financial services sector which jointly created over 9,400 jobs followed by academics and education (with about 7,400 new jobs).

Engineering (over 3,700 jobs), automobile (over 1,800 jobs), real estate (over 1,600 jobs), other manufacturing (over 1,500 jobs), telecom (over 1,000 jobs) and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG-with over 900 jobs) are other significant job generating sectors in UP.

The Assocham Research Bureau (ARB) sourced their inputs primarily from data tracked on a daily basis for vacancies posted by about 4,000 companies via job portals like timesjobs.com, naukri.com, monster.com, shine.com.

It also sourced data from job-related advertisements published in national and regional newspapers for about 56 cities and 32 sectors offering job opportunities.
