Raipur Chhattisgarh Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar on Monday said that sexual offences against women occur because their stars do not favour them. He made the comment after reports emerged that 11 minor tribal girls were allegedly raped by their teacher and a peon in a Kanker hostel.

“Aajkal ladkiyon ke grih nakshtra achhe nahi chal rahe hain, isliye aisi waaardaten ho rahi hain (These days women’s stars aren’t in their favour, that is why such incidents are taking place),” said Kanwar, also a tribal.

State Congress president Nand Kumar Patel called his remark childish and vulgar.

Meanwhile, medical reports confirmed that the 11 girls had been raped. The hostel superintendent Babita Madkam, also a tribal, has been suspended after it emerged that the girls had repeatedly complained to her, but she did not take any action.

The accused peon Dina Nath and teacher Mannu Ram have been arrested.

All the girls are between the ages of 8 and 12.

Irresponsible and reprehensible who asked him to make such unsolicited statement. When the nations mood is dim and gloom cant the BJP as a party shun their cadre to stop making such nonsense statements. Even then if some one make why can`nt it out rightly remove from the party? With out one such fellow the party will crumble? Nonsense is going on. Already the people of India down looked the political class.

In my view, this is really disappointing and a ridiculous remark from our minister. We should not elect such ministers who do not have any respect for the women and just try to save their faces only...hypocrites....

Why rapes occur by B M Karir on 08 Jan 2013

After the Delhi gangrape,a number explantions for the same have been given including the current comment of bad stars. It is a fit case for analytical study to find an answer to the question WHY RAPE OCCURS? Let us do it and then finding solution may be easier.

Dissapointing by Sad on 08 Jan 2013

That elected officials say this is disgusting. This official should be held accountable with the same crimes as the rapists and face the same penalties.
