Now, ban imposed on LPG connections

Centre has restricted supply of cooking gas cylinders at subsidised prices to 6 per year for a family.

New Delhi State-run oil marketing companies are imposing an indefinite countrywide ban on issuing fresh cooking gas connections following the UPA government’s decision to cap the supply of subsidised LPG cylinders to six per household per year.

While Indian Oil Corp (IOC) has already issued an internal circular instructing that fresh LPG connections should be stopped until a “de-duplication” survey is completed, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum are expected to follow soon, sources said. To avoid alarm, IOC has instructed that registrations for new customers be kept open, they said.

However, IOC chairman R S Butola claimed the advisory did not bar applications but said new customers should not be registered without proper identification.

The “de-duplication” exercise under the Know Your Customer scheme is being conducted to verify genuine customers by seeking their latest identity and address proof so as to weed out households with multiple connections under different names but the same address. Only consumers with verified connections will get LPG cylinders.

“It (the ban) will continue until all existing consumers are verified. We expect this to take three-four months,” said an IOC official. The new ceiling imposed earlier this month has resulted in consumers seeking extra connections.

LPG QUOTA by M.R.SEHGAL on 28 Sep 2012

How you can LPG Marketing companies justify that there are more than one connection at one address: A LPG connection was got when there was a small family, then children of the couple grew up, children got married and grand children are there. No.2, When there is a big building there are living owner with tenants. Why don't they put cap on politicians quota who are getting 200-300 LPG cylinders. Or issue new connections liberally.

Managerial training is required unless corruption is the aim of governance. by Prakash on 28 Sep 2012

This government ministers and secretaries must be sent for training in good managerial practices. More controls lead to more confusions, more inconveniences, more discretionary powers and more corruption. Why this government is not working on improving the supply side of resources instead of controlling the consumers.,

The indefinite ban on new LPG connections is likely to be short lived and by March 2013, the connection drive would be reintroduced as congress government approaches the next budget.

LPG NEWCONNECTIONS BANNED BUT WILL KEROSENE OIL BE INCREASED ? by RAJAT KUMAR MOHINDRU .JALANDHAR CITY on 28 Sep 2012

The Government has banned new connections of L.P.G. quoting to find out duplicate Connections . As the Ministry of Petroleum taking plea of the increased demand of LPG and having maximum number of Gas Consumers in Cities decreased the Quota of Kerosene to various States taking plea the LPG Connections . Really Strange that the connections upset the poor because to him the Kerosene was stopped on Ration Cards due to cut in Quota specially Above Poverty Line Families . Now Really Will the Union Government increase the Quota of Kerosene if the LPG Connections Quantity decreases ? Will the Union Government allow Free Sale of Kerosene ? Will the Union and State Government strengthen the Public Distribution System ? There are many Questions that need answers as the domestic LPG Gas Cylinders are used in Tea Stalls , Cars , How Will the Union Government check the misuse of the LPG Cylinders ?
