ODI series: Australia aim to tame 'dangerous' Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle has suffered a nightmare Big Bash campaign for Sydney Thunder, scoring just 72 in his first 6 innings.

Sydney Wicketkeeper Mathew Wade has claimed Australia would be hoping to keep explosive West Indies batsman Chris Gayle in check during their upcoming one-day series, starting on Friday at the WACA.

Gayle suffered a nightmare Twenty20 Big Bash League campaign for win-less Sydney Thunder, scoring just 72 runs at an average of 12 in his first six innings before cracking 65 in the final game, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

However, despite Gayle's less than impressive return in the Big Bash, Australia haven't been lulled into a false sense of security, with Wade branding the left-handed batsman as one of the West Indies' biggest threats.

Wade said Gayle is dangerous wherever you bowl to him, adding he has shown over a long period of time he can take any attack down. Wade further said every time team plays against Gayle, they are hoping to get him out early, adding it would be nice if Australia could do the same over these next five one-day games.

Wade added Australia is aware that Gayle will be looking to go pretty hard at them and they need to execute their plans well. After struggling against Sri Lanka this summer, Australia is desperate to record a comprehensive series win over the West Indies.

Sri Lanka drew the one-day series 2-2, before beating Australia in both Twenty20 encounters.
