Senior Congress leaders Jagdish Tytler has been booked in connection with a clash between party supporters and policemen near state Assembly.

Bhubaneswar Senior Congress leaders Jagdish Tytler and Niranjan Patnaik were today booked by the police for the clash between party supporters and policemen during a rally that left over 260 people injured here, with the Congress filing a counter FIR against BJD President Naveen Patnaik and the police.

Cases have been registered against several Congress leaders including state Congress in-charge Jagdish Tytler and Niranjan Patnaik on charges pertaining to Thursday's violence," Deputy Commissioner of Police Nitinjeet Singh said.

Singh said five cases have so far been registered at the Capital Police Station and Kharavel Nagar police station while efforts were being made to identify those responsible for the violence.

The charges were criminal conspiracy, rioting, causing grievous injury, endangering lives of others, outraging modesty and mischief under IPC and Prevention of Destruction of Public Property Act, police sources said.

While over 34 persons have been arrested for the violence and attack on a woman constable, who was critically injured, more arrests were likely after identification of culprits from CCTV footage, Assistant Commissioner of Police Nihar Das said.

The Congress, filed a counter FIR against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who is the BJD president and the police for attack on partymen and for trespass in Congress Bhavan.

"We have filed two FIRs at the Capital Police Station seeking action against the people who assaulted our partymen and forcibly entered our party headquarters," OPCC President Niranjan Patnaik said.

democracy existence in the foundation of democracy by BASANT KUMAR PADHIARY on 08 Sep 2012

our constitution enforced &reinforced with natural rights & to be redressed in speech & discussion not by violent means or having any criminal intention. it is not good to assault a lady constable & to beat mercilessly. there are many political platforms to disseminates the misdeeds of government if if it is inherent. to take special drive by c b i or judicial inquiry but not by violent means through mass which beget anarchism in the state. election is the most sophisticated machinery blessed by democracy to oust a corrupted government if any one conceives & conformed but not by violent procedure ,which is anti constitutional & criminal oriented. we should follow law & order & unearth the faults of the government if commited should be proved by pen & paper but not by sticks &stones

Quickly conduct the inquiry & court proceedings so that these politicians who are behind this public instigation be put behind bars for atleast 10 years .... best advice to BJD to cash on those and start a new image of having taken quick decisions and punishing guilty setting examples. Do NOT loose any opportunity to punish these Congress leaders
