PM has given Indian democracy 'new' definition: Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has altered the definition of Indian democracy to 'of the foreigners, by the foreigners and for the foreigners'.

Bhuj (Guj): Taking a dig at Manmohan Singh for allowing FDI in multi-brand retail, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said the Prime Minister has altered the definition of Indian democracy to "of the foreigners, by the foreigners and for the foreigners."

"Now onwards pen, pencils, notebooks would not be sold by your neighbourhood shopkeeper but some 'gora' (foreigner). So, local traders and retailers will lose employment," Modi said here while addressing a large gathering at Vivekananda Youth Convention here in Kutch district.

"Former US President Abraham Lincoln gave world famous definition of democracy – 'of the people, by the people and for the people'--, but our Manmohan Singhji has given us a new definition – 'of the foreigners, by the foreigners, for the foreigners'," he said.

He alleged that the decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi brand retail has been taken when there is no level playing field between global manufacturers and domestic producers, facilitating the foreigners.

"This Congress-led government has overnight introduced FDI in retail, keeping Parliament in dark and have broken the promises it has given on the floor of the House," he added.

Modi also blamed the Prime Minister for not taking effective steps to control violence, in spite of him being elected to Rajya Sabha from Assam.

"Bangladeshis, who are foreigners, have started asserting their rights in Assam and our Prime Minster who is also elected from Assam is silent," he alleged.

"If you put these two issues, violence in Assam by foreigners and allowing FDI in retail together it clearly shows central government's love for foreigners," he alleged. Modi was accompanied by senior BJP leader L K Advani at the function.

In line with the series of new announcements, since Modi embarked upon his Vivekananda Yuva Vikas Yatra, the chief minister today announced that now onwards the state government will become guarantor for every youth who seeks bank loans for starting any new venture.

"When a fresh ITI or any skill development institute graduate intends to apply for bank loan, he or she has been harassed for furnishing guarantor. But now Government will become guarantor for every such youth," he announced.

"I am writing a blank cheque for you who are skilled and want to utilise it," he added.

The chief minister also announced a poll sop of Rs 1,500 per month to every worker who are doing internship or apprenticeship in a factory and who is entitled for Rs 1,490 per month apprenticeship allowance under the scheme of Central

government.

"Our government will give this Rs 1,500 over what central government is providing them," he said.

"I have wrote to our PM so many times to increase this apprenticeship allowance. But you all are now aware that it is very easy to land on the moon, but it's really difficult to make Dr Manmohanji talk," he said.

A true leader of India by Rajesh Doshi on 24 Sep 2012

An excellent style of conveying an important message. India needs a 100 Narendra Modis to get our priorities right and prevent politics from becoming a family business of a few in India.

Tyranny of the unelected by Dr.Srinivasan on 21 Sep 2012

Anything but the classical definition of democracy " Of the unelected by the unelected for the unelected"

Foreigners Rule India by Bhagwat S. Goyal on 21 Sep 2012

Walmart and other retail chains of US are undergoing a severe financial crisis and must have paid hefty amounts to get entry into India.India is ruled by a party founded by a foreigner. FDI in retail is a nice diversionary tactic by UPA so that people forget about back-breaking inflation, corruption, poverty and thick-skinned indifference to the lot of the common man.

Modi true patriot by sree on 21 Sep 2012

today we have Bril Ink @ rs.12 for 6oml bottle and we also have montblanc ink @ USD 18 per 50ml bottle. today i have a choice of Bril but tomorrow my cost of living increases if there is a monopoly. so being patriotic is more important and need of hour!! we should support local business than brands and corporate middleman.

A howler by Iconoclast on 21 Sep 2012

Now media should bash this man but it does not have the guts. What kind of illogical and idi0tic response is this. So if Modi invites foreign investment it is all right but if anyone else does it then it is anti-national - mein karuN to sala karacter dheela hai!

MODI IS RIGHT by vish on 24 Sep 2012

Modi is only saying that the government should have created rules and regulations for a level playing field for domestic producers and foreign goods before introducing the FDI in retail law, in which he is truly right. He also cited the example of chinese government paying wages of workers working in a SSI, which india could never, so goods of chinese origin will be cheaper than indian produced goods. Obviously foreign Retailers will be importing from abroad ruining our small manufacturers due to lack of a Level Playing Field.

In complete agreement.

Modi antics by Dilip on 21 Sep 2012

Modi creates issues for political gains rather than addressing issues. As in the past he is playing the communal card to term Assam muslims as Bangladeshis. Why would anyone go to FDI invested malls to buy pens, pencils if they can get better service and cheaper price from the kirana store? People are not fools and Govt should let them decide for themselves rather than BJP deciding for us.

Surprising talk from a PM hopeful by psm on 21 Sep 2012

Surprising that Mr. Modi still talks like street fighter and cant help taking cheap digs at leaders ignoring him. For a capable administrator like him, such talk does not behove well. Hope he learns some public manners before aspiring to be a PM!

New low by DV on 21 Sep 2012

Modiji has unnecessarily stooped to a new low sacrificing any decency he has had. And, more over, "of the foreigners, ..." remark won't convince anyone.
