Project Narendra Modi as BJP's PM candidate: Ram Jethmalani

New Delhi Stirring the hornet's nest in BJP, Ram Jethmalani has strongly pitched for projecting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate in the next Lok Sabha elections.

In a letter to BJP President Nitin Gadkari, he said the party must declare its prime ministerial candidate to help convince the voters in its pre-2014 election campaign.

"I do not think that the choice is difficult...I would want Narendra Modi whose integrity and administrative ability are not in doubt," Jethmalani, a Rajya Sabha member, said in his two-page letter.

The party, which has kept the issue of Prime Ministerial candidate in the backburner with several contenders on the scene, got the letter from Jethmalani who said he wanted to attend the recent Surajkund meeting of the national executive to which he was not invited.

Speaking in favour of Modi, he said, "He has been a victim of diabolic propaganda directed to projecting him as an anti-minority bigot. This undeserved black spot is easy to erase. Every aspiring candidate should do some sincere introspection and discover his own disqualifications."

Referring to minorities, he said, they must be given complete assurance of security and opportunities for becoming prosperous and progressive.

"All past wrongs must be forgiven and forgotten. This requires projecting those who have earned the respect and confidence of the minorities," Jethmalani said.

When asked whether Gadkari was also in the race for Prime Ministership, he said, "I personally think that I will prefer Modi."

Jethmalani said Modi was "head and shoulders above many people in terms of integrity, in terms of efficiency."

He went on to say that not just declaring the Prime Ministerial candidate, the party must also form a "shadow cabinet" in advance.

"In fact a shadow cabinet must be projected with a clear pledge that one third of our cabinet will be non-party experts in their individual fields with impeccable reputation for integrity and intellectual ability. It is for such people that Rajya Sabha is primarily meant.

"It may cause heart burning to the diappointed ones but it is better to face it rather than leave the voters in uncertaintly," Jethamalani said.

Stating that the BJP's election campaign in the next two years will be to highlight the ruling party's corruption which will be the main vote earner, he cautioned the BJP leaders to be above board.

"It is absolutely imperative that our leaders and candidates must have no skeletons in their cupboards," he said.

The lawyer-turned-politician said "We owe to our voters a correct exposition of our brand of secularism. Every religious belief, practice or expression is subject to the paramount needs of the Republic and its value system of public health morality and order."

Taking up the issue of black money, he said, "credible rumours are circulating that some of our aspiring leaders have announced 'black money is no issue' and our spokesmen are under instructions not to emphasis this matter in public."

Modi, the best bet :PM after the next elections by avtar chauhan on 21 Dec 2012

Time is ripe for the BJP led NDA leaders to make up their minds to focus on the next PM-ship now ! Any lethargic & dilly-dallying attitude, riddled with uncalled for negativity from the hirelings &/or leg pullers will cost the BJP beyond imagination! No half-hearted approach in settling the issue once for all. Modi Sahib is the strongest & most deserving contender for the top executive job under the prevailing circumstances; the vox populi is strongly in favour of N Modi only ! Yes, it is bound to create some kind of ripples within BJP led NDA: the cancerous & uncompromising elements may be done away with & removed for good to save the country ,being the only solution; the political stalwart Modi Sahib, strong enough to match & outclass the opposition chairs after 2014,for sure! Mr Jethmalani has a point in strongly recommending Mr N Modi to be the future PM; when in all likelihood the BJP led NDA is going to be victorious, hands down without any ifs & buts! A strong PM has become the need of the day; like the late Sir Winston Churchill during the WW II to win war for the Allies;which he did win! Modi, the future of India deserves to be crowned as the PM after the next Parliamentary Elections, as & when held !Give patient hearing to Mr Ram Jethmalani's proposal now!

Ram Jethmalani or some else it is only a fact that Mr. Narendra Nodi is the best politician in whole country to lead the nation in the present condition. A man of courage, conviction, dedication, honesty and integrity Mr. Modi is head and shoulder above all others. Let us hope that India will be lucky enough Mr. Modi as the next Prime Minister''

If Modi becomes PM, minorities of the country will have the same fate of Gujarat muslims of 2002 by Shankar Patel on 18 Oct 2012

If Modi becomes PM, minorities of the country will have the same fate of Gujarat muslims of 2002

Shar by Brij on 21 Dec 2012

I guess minorities in Gujrat have dweled in a much better way than any other so called "Secular party ruled states". Please go by the stats not just by the intentional bad politics of some secular parties. Before Modi when congress ruled Gujrat there were riots but no one noticed as Congress pays a lot to media people. We want Modi because he is clear on the stand what he needs to do and see what he has done with Gujrat.Dear we are against anti-India elements not against India.

Mr Modi prime ministerial candidate ? by P N SUKHEJA on 17 Oct 2012

Declaring prime ministerial candidate is good idea Mr. Modi is honest and able administrator but suppose after elections he does not enjoy majority of elected members, the situation will be awkward. BJP has better talent than any other political party, let Mr modi get himself elected and prove his skill to become leader of the BJP in parliament, No doubt he will be good prime minister but anti minority tag will come in his way.

FUTURE PM by T.S.JAYARAMAN on 17 Oct 2012

It is too early for BJP to nominate a person now itself. But the suggestion of Modi is fine and welcome.Modiji speaks boldly, developed Gujarat in a major way without any major scams. He can develop our great India economically.

Modi's mistake by Raj on 17 Oct 2012

At last, Jethmalin has admitted that Modi made "a past mistake." The problem with Modi is that he is not willing to admit that. Gujis are thirsty for the blood of minorities. That dies not mean that all Indians will vote for him. If he is projected, BJP will be a 100% winner in fanatic Gujrat and a total loser in all other states where sanity remains in people.

Well is good to be the CM for Gujarat and stay there. by rajkumar on 17 Oct 2012

Well he is the crown Jewel of Gujarat and he is the great Gujarat pride. We dont want Gujis ruling and looting all over India in the name of trade. All are cash business and not one pays taxes. Modi is massively supported by this tax evaders.

Any Leader to Match Modi? by Raghavan on 17 Oct 2012

Mr. Ram Jethmalini's Voice in this issue is the Voice of India. The so called riots happenned in 2002. But after that Modi bhai has comphrehensively won another term.Nothing can stop Modi this time too. The cheap poltics of Congress and Gandhi clan will not woo people of India this time.

Narendra Modi is ideal Candidate for PM's post by Milind Shende on 17 Oct 2012

yes, Narendra Modi is ideal candidate for PM's post. He proved his abilities in Gujrath and made every Gujarathi prospor. Mr. Narendra Modi has vast experience of good, corruption free administration. He is a real DeshBhakta. No-other political leader is as qualified as Mr. Modi. Like me thousands of Indians believe that Mr. Modi could lead our country towards prosperity, peace, and power. He has the ability to provide good infrastructure what UPA, congress govn could not do from past 60 years. Mr. Modi is a man with vision. For PM's post he doesm't have to answer for anything, Gujarathi people will answer, his international awards, his awards from indian Govn, Gujarath statistics about employeement, etc. answer loud for him. When Shri Ram Jethmalani is recommending him as PM, it is some thing very special. Because Shri Jethmalani ji was a Chief Justice of India. He has go vast experience in judging the people. Thanks Mr. Jethmalani ji for your recommendation. Jay Hind.

Re:India can not afford Hitler Regime in India? by Chennai Indian on 17 Oct 2012

If BJP Projects Narendra Modi as Prime Ministerial Candidate then that will mark the end of BJP whatever may be the nexus with terrorists(RSS),It will mark the end of Mahatma Gandhi's efforts to get paece through Non-Violence and turn into bloodshed all over ,We as Indians never want to see burning trains all over India,do not want ignite religious war which will decimate India .If we survived along 65 years only because we are peace loving otherwise India would have been finished by our neighbours .

Narendra Modi is the best by sudhir on 17 Oct 2012

Narendra Modi's Gujarat best example of effective governance: US report WASHINGTON : Identifying Gujarat as perhaps the best example of effective governance and impressive development in India, a Congressional report showered praise on the chief minister Narendra Modi and said that the state under him has become a key driver of national economic growth.

democracy by Aam Admi on 17 Oct 2012

We want more parties like BJP where members have opinions and can air their views. In congress a resolution is passed to authorise Sonia G to nominate the candidate. Unless the democracy is not internalised there cannot be democratic administration.

gujarat by tarun on 17 Oct 2012

First Modi must answer where are the missing children of Gujarat...he must answer what happened in 2002, he must answer who killed Haren Pandya, he must answer that why no Lokayukta in Gujarat, he must answer what CAG report says about his corrupt...before the even think to be PM

First you answer by Indian on 17 Oct 2012

Why Kashmiri pandits are out of Kashmir? why 99.99% terrorists are muslims? why Congress is so corrupt and muslims still vote for congress? why congress is still in power despite so many corruptions? why 1984 riots are not discussed before 2002?

bhuj by bhumi on 17 Oct 2012

The whole world knows that Modi can not become the PM, he and bjp are doing this drama of Modi being the PM is not to become the PM but to sustain as CM....shame on him

Who is not doing a drama? by Ami on 17 Oct 2012

All kind of parties are doing dramas everytime and nobody listen to AAMINSAN. I think to whom you voted earlier that had also done some drama when asked you to vote them-self. But it is up to you and decide, what is right and wrong. There might be some issues and reasons with Modi. But he is working well in Gujarat and I think, if one guy is doing well in one area, then he must get the chance to go forward.

RAJKOT by yogesh on 17 Oct 2012

Modi and PM....What a Joke.....Kaua kya jane Hans Ki Chal....

surat by sachin on 17 Oct 2012

How can Modi and his followers could forget that there is no no development in rural and tribal areas of Gujarat? Modi has hired PR agencies to project himself as man of development and one who can become the PM but the reality on grass root is totally different. Modi has allowed industrialist to loot Gujarat and if he becomes PM, he will let entire world to loot India...

Make Narendra Modi Prime Minister by P R Bhatt on 17 Oct 2012

Narendra Modi can only save this country. If Nitin Gadgari has any problem, let him step down to save the nation. Manmohan Singh and his ministers are thieves and looters. They should be kicked out. It is high time that the whole nation should stand for Narendra Modi.

ahmedabad by amarat on 17 Oct 2012

Modi can not be PM ever in India....we the people of Gujarat will not let him become the CM, forget about the PM!!

Modi asPM by G.Dwarakanath on 17 Oct 2012

I am fully supporting the view of eminent advocate. Shri Modi sab's choice to be PM clearly reflects the view of Indian people as the country is in serious threat from outside and inside enemies. We want to save India from futher anarchy that may disintigrate the nation.I am not a supporter of RSS or BJP but the situation in India forces to take this decision. Shri Rahul is too powerless as it is very difficult for him to control this land having various diversities.

Opinion by Arif Mohiuddin on 17 Oct 2012

He is correct and as suggested Modi should come forward and erase the black spot as Anti-minority (which i am convinced he is not, due to non-recurrence of riots in Gujarat for a complete decade). However it is common knowledge that vote bank politics might have forced him to take some unpopular decisions in 2002.
