New Delhi As people's anger over the death of Delhi gangrape victim spilled out into the streets, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday broke his silence on the ghastly incident calling for introspection and resolve to ensure the security and dignity of women.

“My heart goes out to the family of the young girl and millions of young Indians, families who work, hope and pray for a better India. We as a nation must reflect on the events of the days gone by,” Rahul said, offering his deep condolences to the young girl's family.

As citizens, we must resolve to respect the dignity of women and follow the laws of the land, he said.

“I join my mother and sister in offering deep felt condolences to the young girl's family. My thoughts and prayers are with the family,” Rahul said.

The girl, who was gangraped by six men in a moving bus in south Delhi on December 16, breathed her last in a Singapore hospital early this morning after battling for life for the past 13 days.

About Reflection by Sahar Raman Deep on 29 Dec 2012

Mr. Gandhi, people are silent after protesting violently, but surely enough, they are not resting. They have not forgotten. This surely is a sign of deep reflection. In this terrible time, there is someone who is still using brains, reflecting and urging others to reflect. We Indians act with passion, seldom do we think and plan. But let's do it now. Mr. Gandhi, you are being condemned for having 'fallen flat', the PM for having delivered an emotionless speech, or his silence. But, do we really need another voice in this noise? Mob is out there, they are full of energy, they know something should be done, but how? They need direction. If all of us fill ourself with such rage, who will do the reflection for us? Thanks for your work. (I am not a big Congress, Rahul Gandhi or Manmohan fan... Only that we need a mind who seriously reflects without getting entangled in too much emotions. Lets acknowledge this. One who shouts does not reflect and the one who reflects does not shout.) Sahar

Late but latest! by Lion Man on 29 Dec 2012

If this man had joined hands with demonstrators earlier in Delhi, people would have felt satisfied believing that there is someone from the government side who says " we are with you" But now....... People are in no mood to believe

Is Rahul a leader? by Shiva on 29 Dec 2012

It is shame that Rahul broke his silence to address on the rape issue and after millions of people protested and the victim perished. Rape of women has been going on for years and the failure of Indian leaders show the world that they are completely incompetent or connivance with the criminals. It is insane and India needs new strong leaders who can put an end to corruption and violence.

Thanks Mr.Gandhi by Indian on 29 Dec 2012

Thanks Mr.Rahul Gandhi, seems that you have heard about this girl only today or found time to react only now. Thanks for your condolences.

Future PM: Curse of India by Omprakash on 29 Dec 2012

After 13 days of silence, finally he has spoken. And, oh, what pearls of wisdom. This nut is suppose to lead the country. He can't even face people, can't speak properly on any issues without adviser. Gandhi or Nehru with all there weaknesses were giants, as they faced people, used the minimum security. Today's minnows need all the security. The second generation of dynastic inheritors do not know the problem of India and its people. We need second freedom struggle against this leaders shoved on us from top. To hell with him and his ilks.

Dumb Duck by Ashis on 29 Dec 2012

kudos that one of our young dumb politicians broke his silence. That's what our political leaders know when to shed their crocodile tears, instead of voicing and demanding redressal of debauchery acts of convicts. Incredible India !!!!

Time for action not introspection by guest on 29 Dec 2012

Hopeless and Shameless Bunch of Politicians by Sandeepan on 29 Dec 2012

Any one who was really needed to speak and convey a message at the earliest should have been these three head of congress/ Indian govt. These and other politicians can stand and shout nonsense in parliament and News, can stage drama inside and outside Parliament where they are send to work. they sleep and walk out. NOW WHEN WE NEEDED THEM TO DO ANY ONE THING THEY ARE SILENT AND INSIDE HOMES> Indian Politicians are the worst enemy of the country. Hopeless and Shameless Bunch of Politicians.
