Narendra Modi is the preferred choice at the very top of the Indian govt with an overwhelming majority of 48% voting for him in a survey.

New Delhi Despite the turmoil within BJP and being linked by Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde with 'terror', an ABP-Nielsen exit poll says that the NDA-led coalition will come to power were the general elections held in India here and now.

The claim was made based on a survey across 28 cities, but was held before two big events markedly changed the political space - Rahul Gandhi's elevation to VP's post in the Congress and the unceremonious exit of Nitin Gadkari and the ascendancy of former president Rajnath Singh to the top post in the party.

The survey findings indicate that 39% the respondents would prefer the NDA while 22% opted for the UPA.

SURVEY: If general elections were to be held today, whom will you vote for?

When the more specific question of voting for a particular party was asked, then 36% respondents plumped for BJP while just 18% opted for COngress.

When the stakes were raised and they were asked about their preferred choice at the very top of the Indian govt, then an overwhelming majority of 48% said they would vote for Narendra Modi.

Rahul Gandhi fielded only 18% of the respondents vote while Manmohan Singh came in with just 7%.

Clearly, the UPA has failed to convince people about their sincerity for reforms across the socio-political-economic paradigm.

Other highlights:

* In a straight contest between L k Advani and Narendra Modi, the veteran politician and formner Dy Prime Minister lags way behind by 51:28.

* Narendra Modi, despite coming in for flak from NDA allies like Nitish Kumar's JD(U), will be acceptable as PM candidate by allies, say 50% of respondents while 32% say they will not accept him for the top post.

* 27% of overall responednts are set to vote for BJP while 18% intend voting Congress

* Anna Hazare's credibility still intact and comfortably beats Baba Ramdev

* Overwhelming support for Hazare's plan to launch political party

The Best Thing is that Modi doesn't think of Vote Bank politics by Piyush Sharma on 25 Mar 2013

Some people say that the BJP is communal force and that Narendra Modi is a hardliner Hindutava leader. If that was so then why did a city in Gujrat which has 85% Muslim community vote for BJP candidates in Municipal Elections and they won all 27 seats. That means that they are happy with his work as in case of Godhra people should try to read who started the riots and they belonged to which party.Parties like Congress depend on communally dividing the society that has been there election policy and think people should try to understand that. You cant take vote of the youth on basis of religion but on basis of development and job generation and security. I think MODI will be the best PM of India just like Atal ji

Modi truly deserves to be the PM of India. He has proved his leadership by making Gujarat evolve.

Modi Maniacs by Deva on 25 Jan 2013

Perhaps this could be possible. India is a secular country. Vajpayeeji was a modest nationalist. I do not think that Modi can be a right choice to be a Prime Minister. He will destroy the beauty of India and will mislead the modest Indians who are majority. let there not be the curse of Modi upon India. This survey should be an outcome of Modi Maniacs. There are sufficent Maniacs in his party too.

Modi Mode Mood by DasG on 26 Jan 2013

Let us for moment take deep breath and employ logic and reason as against raw visceral hatred. There have been worse riots and more death under Congress CMs, as well as PMs than Modi. Modi will improve economy, which is the best bet for getting ride of religious, caste, linguistic, regional indeed class based division, and for establishing Indian identity.

survey for PM by CA Satish Shetty on 25 Jan 2013

I am surprised how this useless man Rahul Gandhi got 18% support.Once Modi is declared as PM candidate,I am sure Modi will get 60% support. The present day mess done by this evil UPA will be corrected by a able leader like Modi.

MODI AS PM by Hem Pant on 25 Jan 2013

It is high time the dynasty is send packing. The Nehru -Gandh i clan has done immense damage to the country. The governance has come to halt and only a change like Modi at helm can get the country back to track

Modi the PM by Bodan on 25 Jan 2013

Very good news. The result will be better for Modi after the two events mentioned above.

False poll by Modi PR Agency by RAmesh on 25 Jan 2013

Obviously another publicity stunt by Modi with the Modi centred poll. In India, polls are notoriously erroneous and more so by a foreign organisation who has little idea of the diversity of India and the methods to get a representative sample. Even in Gujarat, BJP did not get such a lead in share of votes over Congress, forget about the whole nation where the results are always far narrower.

Modi for PM by CA Satish Shetty on 25 Jan 2013

Remember,Modi only can save the nation from congress who are doing vote bank politics.
