'Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement from ODIs may sound 'death knell' of 50 over game'

Many Indian fans have said they would, in the wake of Sachin Tendulkar's retirement, cease to watch the 50-over game.

Sydney Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s decision to retire from one-day cricket might mark the end of the fifty-over format of the game, according to cricket writer, Robert Craddock.

“Many Indian fans have said they would, in the wake of Tendulkar's retirement, cease to watch the 50-over game while some went further and said it would be the death of this form of cricket,” Craddock wrote in his column for News.com.au.

“A bit melodramatic? Probably. But let's not be too dismissive. With India generating 81 cents of every dollar spent on cricket around the globe, their money is our money, their success our success,” he added.

“When they feel pain in the hip pocket, the rest of the world has a double hernia. In India, Tendulkar was one-day cricket. His staggering record of 18,426 limited-overs runs cannot be put into perspective simply by looking at his numbers alone,” he further wrote.

Craddock added: “Ricky Ponting, the next most prolific 50-over batsman in history, is almost 5000 runs behind Tendulkar. Add Ponting's career to Andrew Symonds' runs from his 198 games and you cover Sachin. Just.”

“If India lost interest in 50-over cricket it would be a bit like the Arabs losing interest in oil. As it is, the patient is in the casualty ward. Without India's endless passion for the 50-over game the product would be in critical care,” he wrote.

Cricket still our religion Tendulkar still our God

one of the best educating article for the youth of this country by Gaurav on 11 Jan 2013

It clearly explains the age old game-plan of the British establishment to engage the foolish Indian crowd by injecting their poisonous venom known as CRICKET. Bloody Indians like to hit the leather for 5 days at a stretch or a 1 day and now 1/2 day, and in the return get their pockets empty. What a shame indeed!! This pathetic guy named Tendlya was nothing but a selfish businessman who was required by every stake-holder to increase their own wealth by making the Indian population poor. Anyway, foolish Indian people deserve to be looted. But, at least now people should realise that they should boycott this non-sense game from India. Thanks for the article which exposes the real picture of cricket mafia.

See in mirror by kjatt on 11 Jan 2013

What do you think when Eu is spending billions euro on football is it your venom. Dum persone cann't do anything just telling Bloody to others only, without realising how pathetic you are.

Keep your mirror for yourself..... by Gaurav on 11 Jan 2013

@ Mr/Ms Kjatt....however it is...???? I have based my comments on valid observations. If you don't know me personally then I don't think you should be commenting about me. I don't care what EU does to football or any other thing... thats their matter. I am concerned about my country and I love my country. Well, yes I have used some harsh words but I guess those words are far much less damaging than the actual effect of Cricket in India. If you can co-relate a single (I repeat a single huh!) positive outcome this game has given to India then I would never ever comment on cricket in a bad taste. But, if you are going to have a go at me personally then I dont think I would respond to you since I respect this newspaper platform. Thanks bro
