Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi blames 'nudity and fashion' in Bollywood movies for crimes against women

Mumbai Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi on Tuesday said he supported RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s views on rape being more prevalent in urban India than “rural Bharat”. Azmi also blamed “nudity and fashion” being projected by Bollywood movies for the increasing number of crimes against women.

“In the urban culture, where women are out with their boyfriends till late in the night skimpily dressed, rape instances are bound to be higher than in rural areas where women are mostly confined to their homes and are dressed properly,” said Azmi.

Azmi said people like Shabana Azmi and Sharmila Tagore who have been members of the Censor Board are responsible for the nudity content in films. “Women from rural areas should be made members of the Censor Board so that films that are in line with Indian culture reach the audience,” Azmi said.

He should first say this to his actress daughter-in-Law by Deepak on 09 Jan 2013

Funny how this man can say this, when his own daughter in law underwent plastic surgery to enlarge herself and acted in movies. Does his actress daughter in law behave the way he is preaching?

he's just trying to cover his own misdeeds.his speeches may hv incited the riots at dhule, maharastra which is being rightly probed by police. now, he's trying to show his secular side by supporting bhagwat's "views on rape in india & bharat". i just pray people like these r born as helpless women in some so called modern society, suffer humiliation & pain of the same or more magnitude as the girl who died in the rape incident at delhi & then reborn to give their views on the causes of rape, politics related to rape so on & so forth as we have been hearing on almost on daily basis now..poor girl i think she's better off dead than alive...

Abu Azmi's comment by Jishnu on 09 Jan 2013

The rapists must be severly punished, even upto death, such that no one dares to repeat it again. However, unless we address the cause of why the men involved in this crime have such animalistic character, these brutal incidents will keep repeating. After all these men were innocent children when they were less than 5 years of age. The society around made their minds corrupt. Through media and cinemas, the youth is degrading day by day and their minds are getting agitated and corrupt. Instead of constructive educational use of media and movies, these are practically an abuse to the sacred womanlihood. Abu Azmi's comment has deeper merit for all wise people of the country. Besides, although few temples in India had architectural illustrations of women, in the indian culture women are covered from top to toe even in ancient India. Every woman is to be offered motherly respect. Proper womanly conduct naturally arouses such respect. But, no excuse is good enough to abuse women.

Abu Azmi's statement on Nudity by AP SINGH on 09 Jan 2013

Sabko Sudhar Denge, lekin hum nahee sudhrnge. Yes, this applies to those who does advocacy for wearing short dresses/Cloth of girls/ladies. I had been very much disturbed after hearing of Delhi Gang Rape and is still disturbed until the culprits are not hanged till death. Even so-called juvenile should be hanged first. BUT WHAT IS WRONG, IF WE WEAR FULL AND GOOD LOOKING DRESS/CLOTHS AS PER TRADITION OF OUR COUNTRY.? Why the Government cannot be strict on Censor Board, who is allowing the TV Serials and movies to pollute our new generation? I am surprized, why Censor Board is there, I think this is the channel to make money by of NETAs.

Blame everyone but the rapists by Anon on 09 Jan 2013

These politicians and high profile personalities seem to have only one goal in mind - blame the girls, media, society, rural culture, bollywood... you name it... except the rapists!

Indian culture by Rajesh M on 09 Jan 2013

Abu Azmi, What exactly is Indian culture. See the sculptures in front of the Indian temples, the statues of Hindu goddesses in skin tight fitting sarees, exposing naval, body curves, cleavage is Indian and Hindu culture. So please don't talk too much on that. Learn dress codes of females in Christian/islam/jewish faith.

Abu azmi on Rape by dv1936 on 09 Jan 2013

He certainly is a friend of the rapists and India's corrupt police, if he had his way he would want all women to wear burqa.
