Sexual harassment panel must in Gurgaon offices: DC

Gurgaon After the gangrape of a 23 year old in a moving bus in Delhi, the Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon P C Meena on Thursday directed district officers to constitute a committee in every office to address complaints of sexual harassment.

Meena was presiding over a monthly meeting of district officers on Thursday. He said two female employees and a male employee should be included in this committee and whenever any complaint of sexual harassment is reported, it should be inquired and swift action taken against those found guilty.

He directed officers concerned to install CCTV cameras around Mini Secretariat to enable the police to keep an eye on the area. These cameras will be directly connected to the police control room. In the meeting, Meena told officers to ensure that there are no open borewells or manholes in their jurisdiction.

Meena also spoke about the need for rainwater harvesting in all the government buildings and parks. He said officials of Haryana Urban Development Authority and Municipal Corporation Gurgaon should ensure that builders make rainwater harvesting systems in new structures.

It should be made mandatory for the companies to go in all out for installation of cameras and a central control room in all their work places in order that any incidence of importance would come to light early and also sufficient video evidence also available would make things very easy for catching the culprits speedily which would help the process of fast justice. Also, mini cameras may become necessary to be installed in the vehicles used for ferrying the staff.
