Shah Rukh Khan says does not want apology

Mumbai Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, at the centre of a row over his detention and questioning at a U.S. airport, said on Tuesday he wasn't looking for any apology.

Khan, 43, one of India's best known actors, was en route to Chicago for a parade to mark the Indian Independence Day when he was pulled aside and questioned at Newark airport on Friday.

"I respect that my name pops up on the computer and I also agree that I don’t need to be treated specially, I am nobody," Khan told a news conference at his residence a few hours after returning to Mumbai.

"They asked me some questions which I thought was a little embarrassing. But if a procedure has to be followed, it should be done properly," he said.

Khan's detention caused uproar among fans in India. Newspapers and TV channels termed it an instance of racial profiling and the controversy sparked debate in the media.

"I was really hassled, perhaps because of my name being Khan. These guys just wouldn't let me through," the actor had said in a text message to reporters on Saturday.

On Tuesday, Khan sought to play down the controversy and said he wanted to "move on".

When asked if he would go back to the United States, the actor said he would cut back on trips to the country.

"When work calls me I will go again, I will stand in line again, and I hope that the system which made my name pop up on the computer is not there," Khan said.

The actor also denied media reports that the incident was a publicity stunt for his upcoming film "My Name is Khan", which is about a Muslim man's experience with racial profiling.

"It is not a matter of pride for me that I was questioned at the airport," the actor told reporters.

"I don't want to sound pompous but Shah Rukh Khan doesn't need publicity stunts to be in the public eye."

NO OPOLOGY STUNT BY SHAHRUKH by Tushar on 10 Feb 2010

Shahrukh is not opologizing just because he wants to benifit the most from it. He wants his film to be a hit targeting the muslims around the globe (mostly muslim countries). He cares a dam what indian people feel. His comment about pakistani players was just a publicity stunt for this film which turned out more severe that what he expected but he still sticks to what he said just to survive his film.

SRK is right by Amit Johar on 20 Aug 2009

I live in America and I can clearly tell that even a fool would know that SRK is not a terrorist. It is okay to interrogate him. But 2 hours is excessive. What kind of technology were they using? Many people who are posting that SRK is wrong, have themselves never experienced how harsh and rough the interrogation is. It may even give you a headache after all is over. And yes many times there is racism and profiling. Khans and minorities are targeted, but not smiths. As if Smith and whites are saints and we all are dirt who is more likely to cause terrorism. It is absolutely unjustified to detain this damn long. if every person in airport is detained for 2 hours, the interrogators will fall asleep on the desk!

Revewer by Bharat Sharma on 20 Aug 2009

I think he is making fun out of himself, when He is in US so many times before this incicent, he never complained, but why now? In India there are a Billion Brains, so now it is a guess game may be they have checked his ass thoroghly. You are very rich, it does not mean that You can get over any ting you want in US, may be in India, since Your are licking Gandhi Family's Ass. You are making this event as a a Promoter of your new movie.

bharat sharma about shahrukh ...who is he ? by SITAKANT on 11 Sep 2009

who the hell this chap Mr.Bharat ? why do u use the word Gandhi ? better respect the man...

Chori aur Seenajori by Ashok on 20 Aug 2009

Top six reason why SRK is losing it:1) He has upset most Indians by criticizing laws of other countries, and making Indians look bad. Agreed he is uneducated, but ignorance of law is not accepted anywhere.2) Indian Americans have paid millions of dollars to pay for his shows and movies in USA. He pays them back by making them look foolish.3) SRK underestimates intelligence of Indian people. Most people realize that this is a publicity stunt since this is similar to the theme of his next movie. 4) SRK knows that he is a below average actor and dancer, and cannot compete with good actors like Hritik, Shahid, Saif, and Amir. Hence the desperate need to get free publicity.5) SRK is old and has few years left so he wants to earn money at all cost. At what cost? By creating religious tensions between communities? Oh behave!6) SRK is a pervert. He recently stated that he wants to frisk Angelina, who is a mother of 6 children. Would you let him grope women in your family?

WORK CALLS ME?I WILL COME TO US by SR on 20 Aug 2009

What kind of work will be calling Mr Khan to US?Dancing for dollars, what other skills does he have?I think he is absoluetely delusional. He believes that he is somekind of a "KING",the others in his fraternity may want to speak to him to shut up and come back down to earth, the media can also help.If he does not come to the US no one will miss him.

SRK is a fraud by Kumar on 19 Aug 2009

SRK is the biggest fraud going around.....the whole issue is one big publicity stunt.

No one has offered an apology to him! by Ram on 19 Aug 2009

Who the hell is apologising to him?! Haha! Seriously, what does this actor think of himself? Nobody ever offered him an apology, so who is he to want or not want an apology? Total megalomaniac, that's what he is! You're not a 'King' in real life, grow up, you mere filmy actor!

Indians deserve for their mentality by Shiva on 19 Aug 2009

Indians may be more immotional. Recently Indians were attacked in Australia and those people deserve it for their behaviour. Why Indians are singled out by the Australians? SRK may be a gentleman. But average Indians and the corrupt government are barbaric. The Congress party Indian government has supported at the UN for against UN Human Rights investigation in Sri Lanka for the crimes against Humanity and Tamil minority. Can the Indian government talk on Human Rights in the future? Congress party government of India has created history and voted against Human Rights? What does it show?

What makes Mr Khan so different from the other Indians ?? by Vidya on 19 Aug 2009

Hundreds of Indians land in the US and go through experiences that are "not pleasant". But now that Mr Sharukh "King" Khan was detained, there is an uproar. Apparently he was questioned because of his Muslim name. But so are hundreds of others. What makes Mr Khan so special. Mr Khan should be thankful that he had the option of calling a politician and getting out of the situation with just a bruised ego. What about the hundreds of others who go through the ordeal without a backdoor option. How many of our airport staff would recognise a Chinese or Korean actor? How can we expect the US airport staff to recognise some guy who apparently is a big star in his country? Mr Khan has been quoted saying that America needs to understand that there is no "isolated parallel universe existence for this country". I couldn’t agree more. Now Mr Khan needs to understand that there is not an isolated parallel galaxy for bollywood stars, at some point they have to come down to earth like us commoners.

Gentleman and a super star by Indi on 19 Aug 2009

Mr.Kalam behaved like a gentleman. SRK is behaving like a super star. Had this happened to any non muslims or non christian actor, ambika soni would not have called for a tit for tat action. Cannot understand why this issue is being raked in the media again and again. US is not India or US govt is not UPA govt or congress govt and to compromise its national security and national interests. US has every right to protect its nation, unlike India where UPA and congress are selling India to make a living and to appease its vote banks.

SRK episode by Gauri Khan on 19 Aug 2009

Dear, who in the first place is offering you an apology? Aspire but dont hallucinate!

Mr. by Mohan T. Cherian on 19 Aug 2009

The incident on Mr. Shah Rukh Khan by the U.S. Immigration department @ Newark Liberty is nothing new . They routinely profile people of ethnicity and other religious and citizen of other countries.THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THIS WAS PRE MEDITATED ON MR. SHAH RUKH KHAN. THERE ARE MANY MORE WHO HAVE SUFFERED THE SAME TREATMENT.

SRK- A disgusting creep by Kuljeet S Bhamra on 19 Aug 2009

This ageing non actor has staged this as a publicity stunt for his failing career. After he realised that his plans had backfired, he has started his Act II of saying that he does not want an apology. he is a conniving, slimy and 3rd rate creep!

Reply by Gauri Sharuk Khan on 19 Aug 2009

Mark my words, he indeed is a creep. He was even conspiring to....big B..... but I, as his wife, dissuaded him from doing do.

America knocks down Bollywood and India by Jai Kumar on 19 Aug 2009

America has smacked Bollywood on its head. Its unlikely that the American intelligence agencies were unaware that Shahrukh was on that plane. Everybody knows that America is wary of competition and the Entertainment industry is one of the biggest industries in the world. How dare Bollywood raise its profile in America and usurp Hollywood's space.Bollywood has grown too big for its boots. Lets kick India down to its place.

SRK by Dr B Sundara on 19 Aug 2009

Sounds reasonable

King khan at Newark bad experience by Rocky on 19 Aug 2009

US administration asked whether SRK needs an appology but King khan refused. Many peoples are jeaouls of his acheivements and stardust, he is a great and humble person and identity of India and we should defend him at any cost

SRK is a fraud by Harjeet Singh Dhillon on 19 Aug 2009

admit yourself to a mental hospital u moron, this guy is nothing but a selfish and publicity hungry scum. His contribution to India and Indian cinema is nil

SRK by K. Ravee on 19 Aug 2009

If whatever SRK has told, about the bad treatment, is a publicity stunt then the denial about the incident should have come from the other side. Without that, blindly blaming SRK is very much unfair.

By the way ..........what he thinks of himself??????? by Amit Purohit on 19 Aug 2009

By the way who will make him understand that America did;nt offered to apologise and why should they? Some of his fans did asked whether you seek and he said no.But one party is not even intrested in his gimmicks.A soveriegn country has full rights to make a system and follow it,even if someone dislikes it.I did also watched his entire telvised confrence and he addressed all the other persons of known face value with great sense of disprespect. He is who to America excpet being self styled king /badshah or whatever his lovers want to address him but not US or India as nation or for that matter any nation.I am waiting for I

SRK- a national identity by Dr B Sundara on 19 Aug 2009

Mr. Khan gave a very good comment to a television channel, “for the present terrorism that the world is facing, all are responsible”. May be true; the world has created so much disparities and divisions which are the root causes for the unrest world over.Stating that Mr. Khan is any ordinary individual like any other is an understatement. He is one of our national identities at the present time. Not only India, but also the world needs individuals like Mr. Khan to build bridges across the nations. So it is important to make use of them to foster friendship and good will among the peoples. Special treatment to special individuals may have to be given for greater good of the humanity. And we the people of India have to treasure our identities for our own good.

King khan deseves appology by Dev on 19 Aug 2009

Dear King, you deserves appology, dont let the matter, there should be tit for tat and we should strip these silly americans if they come to india but im sure it is not gonna happen since we have our ancient rule of slavery

King khan deseves appology by Indian on 19 Aug 2009

"Silly Americans"? After 150 people were killed in Mumbai, the non-silly Chidambaram ran to the United States for help -why was that? While it is true that some Indians worship Shahrukh Khan, the guy is nobody in this country. If he wants to visit USA, he will have to obey US rules. Americans are not forcing him to visit USA - choice is his.

Shame on you. You should apologize by KK on 19 Aug 2009

It's unbelievable this joker's ego is. Looks like he hasn't read all the postings by netizens. Dude. Go ahead and apologize for the commotion you caused. Stick on your promise of never to visit USA. Take some candy's one last time to your MP friend, I

SRK HASSLE AT NEWARK AIRPORT USA by P.C.LUTHRA on 19 Aug 2009

WOULD SOLICIT THE FAVOUR OF LEARNED SHAH RUKH KHAN TO FORGIVE AND FORGET THE EPISODE. MAN IS APT TO MAKE MISTAKE AND I AM HOPEFUL THE AUTHORITIES IN USA WOULDLEARN A GOOD DEAL OF EXPERIENCE TO STOP 'OVERDID' INSPECTION AT AIRPORT. WITHOUT PREJUDICE.

Uneducated by Ashok on 19 Aug 2009

Learned? SRK is uneducated! SRK just does not want to follow US security laws. Also he wants to frisk a mother of 6 children. Would you allow him to touch women in any family?
