Well said Gursharan. It seems our minister doesn't know social set up in our country. Victims never want heroism in these type of issue. They want justice with little shame to her dignity and of there family members by least publicity

Rape is common. Cause is perception that women are property of men to be used/abused. Victims are shamed and accused praised by the male dominated authorities, judiciary, families and society. Laws are ineffective with little action by authorities. The victims are blamed, made guilty and said to invite rapes. Society condones rapes as it involves men whose seed sowing before marriage is acceptable but the women they are having sex with are shamed. Reports say that it is difficult to make FIR as police shame victims again. The FIR is followed by poor investigation resulting in low sentences or acquital of the rapist. The shaming of the victim continues even if the rapist is sentenced. This leads some to suicide due to society's insults or even that of the murder of the victim by its own families. Brothers forget rakhee, husbands forget promises and fathers forget protection and all blame the women. Hang the culprits and expose male relatives. Malaysia

Everybody must think about how to diminish or stop rape Incidents. Only blaming government or demanding Strict law against rape is not sufficient..As youknow Murder charge is death penality but whaere murders are decreasing?? So please everyone must follow a proper guidelines to safe onesel.Everygirl must follow that guidelines nbecoz no place is safe for her,and police can protect her outside the home,but what about inside home rape with her relatives??So let's think a true applicable remedial action against that crime.

Shashi Tharoor is one useless person in the Cabinet. We all know what he did in his previous stint as MoS (External Affairs). An insensitive person that he is, it's better to ignore his statement altogether. Perhaps, we should have another legislation favoring 'sweat equity' named after her 'priceless' wife.

I agree with Mr Tharoor. This will ensure that future generations know how and why the country became safer for women. This girl is a martyr, and should be remembered until the end of time. Rape is a matter of shame for the rapist, not the victim, and the sooner people realise this the better for the country.

Why is Mr. Tharoor not asking for the identity of the 6 rapists. He should write to the Indian Govt.(provided it exists?)to publish all photographs of all criminals so that the society is aware of their presence. The identity of the criminal and his/her complete family should be mane public.

Mr. Sashi should be taking action, not making comments. If the political class has no will, what can aam admi do?

While Shashi's point makes a lot of sense in dignifying a hero; one has to look at the plight of the family in Kerala from their own kin making them a social outcast. Unless culturally there is shift in thinking; these victims will continue to suffer in silence. Media and politicians have to work together in this long path of emancipation. The criminals thrive unfortunately in this social climate.

We are all used to Mr.Tharoor's remarks and comments. But, this time he has spoken ill-timed logic. And in time her name should be revealed though it is a bit too early to do so now when the issue is simmering. All in this country are hurt by what has happened to the braveheart in Delhi. It would be wise if Mr.Tharoor had written his views to the PM and UPA chairperson instead of twitting. It is time to let her memory live and not let her struggle and death go in vain. She should be an inspiration to all women in this country to stand for their rights and learn to face and fight political and Bureaucratic apathy.

Sashi Tharoors suggesstion should be viewed in the proper perspective. Excepting the fact, the media, as a mark of respect to the deceased has not disclosed the name, unofficially everybody knows the victims identity. In the passing, I would like to observe that the spontaneous outburst of feelings by the publec, is the culmination of the pentup feelings of the common man. The aam asmi or the mango man has been taken for a ride, both by the government and political parties. This, unfortunate incident, has mobilised the inner feelings of the people at large. There was no political backing-the politicians were shunned. Those in power should understand that the people are capable of organizig themselves to support lost causes.

For too long, we have been treating rape as a matter of shame. It is indeed shameful, for the rapist, not the raped. Would we blame a person bitten by a mad dog? The rape is one instance - the rape victim dies inside because of the way we see rape as something demeaning and diminishing for the victim - and the rape continues. This seems to be the only crime in which society repeats the action a million times. The shame associated with victimhood denies many a chance for justice. Shop-soiled goods is certainly off the shelf in the Indian marriage market, demeaning as it is to women. It is time we recognize, rather admit that the rape victim is not diminished in any way more than a dog-bite victim and reserved all our vituperation for the mad dog and for the rabies virus that runs through the veins of society. A rape victim should be able to walk into a police station and report it like a picked pocket. Otherwise, rape will never lose its power as a weapon of subjugation.
