Listen to Pavarotti and Sinatra come alive this evening.

Meghalaya-based opera singer, Toshanbor Singh Nongbet, will treat the city to covers of Luciano Pavarotti and Josh Groban today. The 22-year-old soprano was a contestant of the reality show India’s Got Talent, impressing viewers and the judges, Karan Johar, Malaika Arora Khan and Kirron Kher, with his powerful voice. Leaving the show as the 4th runner up opened many doors for him. “Not many people in India are interested in opera, but being on TV has given me the exposure I had always dreamed of,” he says. Contrary to popular belief, he is far more popular in the metro cities than in Shillong, where his tryst with music began. Today’s performance will include his regular opera line-up, besides a few jazz numbers. “I have always done covers of Pavarotti, and Josh Groban, but I love jazz and so I plan on singing a few songs by Frank Sinatra and Michale Buble,” says Nongbet. “An Evening of Opera and Jazz” is organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), at the Azad Bhavan Auditorium at 6:30 pm today.
