It was the second day at Antaranga. And the center of attraction for the day was, Pandit Ajay Pohankar, the man behind the hit album, 'Piya baawari'. The program started with Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande introducing Pandit Ajay Pohankar after which the versatile artiste took over the proceedings. “My mother Sushilabai Pohankar was a classical singer. She used to sing her own compositions," said the vocalist who then gave a treat to all present with a rendition of Mero mana ga , that sure took him down the memory lane. " I was 11 years old when I first performed at Sawai. The year was 1959. That was the first time that I got an appreciation from my mother. That still remains the best appreciation I've ever got," he recounted emotionally.

What are his memories of Ustaad Aamir Khan Saab? " Aamir Khan Saab used to come to our bungalow in Jabalpur. I am lucky that I got to interact with him at an age of 10! There is one funny thing about this. Whenever he used to come, my mother would make me sing in front of him. And she would purposely tell me to make mistakes ."Kya kar raha hain Ajay?" Aamir khan would say and start singing himself. That was our trick to make him sing!" he added smilingly.

Piya baawari, is a famous creation by him and his son Abhijeet Pohankar. Not only it is an out of the box experiment in the history of Indian classical music, but has also been a background for many a fashion shows! Panditji thanks his son Abhijeet for this. " We are releasing a new album called Urban Raagas by Abhijeet Pohankar," he added.

Rajabhau Kale, winner of the Vatsalabai Joshi Smruti Puraskar then took centrestage to reveal that music was bequeathed to him by his parents. But Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki also had a lot to do with it, he added. " I grew up in Aurangabad and Pandit Abhisheki used to come quite frequently there. I used to love listening to him," he said. According to Raajabhau today when westernization is becoming the name of the game, it is these veteran singers who play a key role in sticking to the roots." Perfomances at that time were the science behind sangeet, but showing off the sciences is not sangeet. What we learn in music schools is about giving exams. But music is not in books. Books are deaf, how will they teach music? Why can't we come out of the old school of thinking? Why don't we approach Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi to come and teach?" he queried in conclusion giving the music lovers ample food for thought.
