It comes after Steve Finn, who suffered a thigh injury while bowling in England's tour opener against India A, is doubtful of playing in the first of a four-Test series starting at Ahmedabad on November 15.
Although Surrey pacer Stuart Meaker has been called up as cover, but at 6ft 1in, he is six inches shorter than the man he is replacing, and therefore, lacks Finn’s bounce and penetration, the Telegraph reports.
According to the paper, the England medical team is now targeting the second Test for Broad to be fit as his heel problem could potentially leave England short of pace and bounce.
The medics said that being tall and fast, there is large amount of force going through Broad’s left ankle every ball he bowls, so even a niggle would be likely to compromise him, and would make a prognosis of his injury soon, the paper said.
