New Delhi After having suggested abolition of co-education and a “sober and dignified” dress code for girls in educational institutions to “ensure safety and security” of women, the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind on Wednesday demanded that working women, especially in Delhi and the National Capital Region, should be given only day shifts.

In its suggestions to the Justice Usha Mehra committee, set up after the gangrape of the 23-year-old woman in Delhi, the outfit said a special late night transport system equipped with GPS, CCTV cameras and women security personnel must be started for women.

The organisation has reiterated its suggestions to the Justice J S Verma panel including banning alcohol, declaring sex outside marriage and live-in-relationships as “illegal and punishable”, gradual abolition of co-education, expediting police reforms and making delay in filing FIRs a punishable offence.

It has also suggested that timely marriage should be encouraged, all forms of dowry abolished and unnecessary expenditure be curbed and made punishable.
