Following the first state convention of the outfit that was held on August 25 at Kolkata’s Netaji Indoor stadium, Yuva has published a book on Mamata’s political career in which it has eulogise Mamata and her leadership. The book is also being published in the party’s mouthpiece, Jago Bangla, in the form of a series. Equating Mamata’s lifestyle with that of Mahatma Gandhi, Yuva leaders commented that her struggle, her emergence in the national politics may find a place in the syllabus of book “at any day and at anytime.”
“Among the mass leaders of Independent India, she is the only exception. This is why she has been acknowledged by the people of the country as Didi just as Mahatma Gandhi became the Father of the Nation through his nickname Bapu. Protesting against all offences and torture (against common people), she quit ministership without any hesitation a number of times. The Time magazine has described her as one of the most 100 powerful persons in the country. But vanity of power never touched her. She is still a mass leader and a woman made of fire (agnikanya),” the book reads.
Furthermore, Yuva claimed, that it is Mamata who had played a big role in setting up of West Bengal Human Rights Commission — which in fact, was established by Left Front in 1995.
It states that in order to “reclaim the human rights of the people”, Mamata sat on a dharna in Kolkata in November 1995. “The protest against the custodial death and torture against women, continued for 21 days. She demanded job and compensation for 188 tortured persons. This movement had shaken the foundation of the then government. Because of this movement, West Bengal Human Rights Commission was set up. The establishment of human rights commission would not have been possible without Mamata’s movement,” it adds.
On the days preceding her decision to break away from the Congress to form the Trinamool Congress, the article says that in the beginning of 90s a “so-called big leader of the Congress, who used to stay in a posh hotel” called Mamata and told her that a proposal had come from CPM leader Shyamal Chakraborty that the Left Front would not “disturb” Mamata in South Kolkata seat during the election if Congress gives the ticket to contest from his seat to someone who is “not close to Mamata”. “She (Mamata) was astounded to see the co-existence of the Congress and the CPM. She strongly protested and told that she would not abandon ideology to become an MP,” the article claims. Mamata’s mother, according to the write-up, had suggested her to quit the Congress and set up her own party.
