According to British news outlets, the Register and the London Evening Standard, two viewers had complained the ad, which has screen on YouTube and in cinemas - was irresponsible and condoned dangerous driving.

The report by the London Evening Standard said that the ad, named Real Deal, for the Toyota GT86 was set in an animated virtual world and began with a male character describing not being real until he drove the car.

This was followed by scenes of a chase through narrow streets and the driver exploding through the glass wall on to a real road.

The car-maker said the driver was never shown to be out of control and his behaviour did not endanger himself or others, adding that the ad was set in an artificial environment which was impossible to emulate.

Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), however, rejected Toyota''s defence of the ad.

According to the paper, the authority ruled that ‘the ad must not appear again in its current form.’
