Uddhav Thackeray wants permit system for Biharis in Mumbai

Mumbai Unfazed by strident criticism of his cousin MNS leader Raj Thackeray over his anti-Bihari remarks, Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday sought a permit system to check influx of Bihari migrants into Mumbai.

Uddhav also declared that his party would not accept Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as NDA's prime ministerial candidate if he continues to stick to his stand on supporting “traitors”.

“The Bihar CM should have felt ashamed that the Amar Jawan memorial vandal turned out to be a Bihari,” Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' today quoted Uddhav as saying.

“If Mumbai Police needs Bihar Police's permission to nab criminals who have committed crime in Maharashtra and escaped to Bihar, then implement the permit system for those coming here from Bihar,” Uddhav said.

By meddling in police action in the matter of a person from Bihar arrested in the Azad Maidan violence case, Nitish Kumar has fueled a controversy, he said.

Raj Thackeray had last week threatened to brand Biharis in Maharashtra as infiltrators.

Taking a dig at the MNS, Uddhav said, “If there are followers who are taking up Shiv Sena's issues like Marathi pride, issues of sons of soil and opposition to Pakistani artistes, it is good.

“However, there is no 'navnirman' (new creation) in taking up old issues,” Uddhav said, in a pun on the word navnirman in the name of Raj Thackeray's outfit.

Yesterday, Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray had said Bihar's chief secretary had no business interfering in the action taken by Mumbai Police to arrest a person accused of violence at Azad Maidan.

“Nitish Kumar should have congratulated Mumbai Police for their action as the arrest had prevented Abdul Qadir from fomenting more trouble in that state,” he had said.

BJP slams Uddhav's remark against Biharis

BJP hit out at Shiv Sena leader and NDA ally Uddhav Thackeray for his comments that Biharis living in Maharashtra should carry a permit, saying the party has fought since its inception for allowing all Indians to visit and live in any part of the country.

BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said Jan Sangh, the predecessor of the party, fought against the permit system in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The party's founder Shyama Prasad Mookherjee sacrificed his life fighting against the permit system for Indians entering the state of Jammu and Kashmir. We don't need a permit to go to Maharashtra,” he said.

Hussain, who is MP from Bhagalpur in Bihar, said Maharashtra is part of India and every citizen of the country has a right to visit it and earn his livelihood.

“We will not accept this. Every Bihari has a right to go to any part of the country,” Hussain said.

Uddhav Thackeray had echoed the views of his cousin and MNS Chief Raj to demand that a permit system for Biharis in Maharashtra should be implemented in the state.

The outsider issue has gained prominence since the ethnic violence in Assam took place.

Recently, a crowd protesting against these attacks indulged in violence and vandalised the Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial in Mumbai.

Suppose if the entire others come out of Mumbai; it shall turn into a desert overnight.Such words are origin of all Evils that are hunting the Globe now. Let us such be aware of such Political Parties taking charge over all to force human Spice to get extinct.

Bihar is the land of Ashoka! by madhuK on 06 Sep 2012

Ashoka, the great emperor of India who was from Bihar and spread Buddism all over the world. He is the only king who rules entiere iNdia from Afganisstan to Srilanka. Today, Biharis are going as beggers in search of work all over India is a shame. Bihar has become a failed state because of Lalu Yadav and the current C.M Nitesh Kumar and they take false pride instead of cdeveloping their state and create employemnt. Some people may find fault with Raj Thakery but local people have to benefit before their resources are shared by outsiders. India unity is based on diversity and protection of local culture, language and resources.

Are you out of your mind!! by Pranav on 08 Sep 2012

The 70% candidates that pass the UPSC exam to become IAS officers every year are Biharis. So you may say India runs on the strong shoulders of Biharis. No, we are not beggars going out for begging in any other state. We look for opportunities and grab it! Ya Lalu Yadav has failed the state as a CM. But before you point your views towards Nitish Kumar, I would request you to visit the current Bihar once, so as you get a better outlook for your views. And there is a line that goes by in The Indian National Pledge which is an oath of allegiance to the Republic of India, it says All Indians are Brothers and sisters, it nowhere says that marathis only or biharis only are brothers and sisters, Uddhav Thackrey may blame all biharis for the deed of one wrong person, but has he forgotten that the whole of Mumbai still trembles with the fear of one man, Dawood Ibrahim, who by birth is a Marathi, so much as Mr. Thackrey himself. I don't think anyone in the world has marred Mumbai as much as Dawood has did. Why doesn't Mr. Thackrey send a secret police force to Dubai and get a hold on Dawood then.

It should be discussed b4 making Mumbai a Metropolis!! by rajO on 07 Sep 2012

B.J.P. Senior Leader Shayma Parsad Mukherjee sacrificed his life against the then permit system to Jammu and Kashmir ,After his sacrifice the permit was abolished in Jammu and Kashmir .

CAN BIHAR GOVT. GIVE DIRECTIONS TO MUMBAI POLICE? by VIJAY B. BAGWE on 04 Sep 2012

If along with Shiv Sena and MNS leaders comments for the permit of Bihari's in Mumbai, if media had also mentioned that the said objections were raised because the Bihar Govt. had asked Mumbai Police not to take any action against those Bihari's arrested in the 11th Aug Mumbai riots, without their permission. If media had also published this report there would not have been so much furore on Shiv Sena & MNS Leaders statement. Can Bihar Govt interfere in the police investigation against criminals, carried out by Police of the other state?

Yes!! by Srinivas Chittimalla on 07 Sep 2012

Yes! This is not interference of the Bihar govt in the Mumbai police investigation rather it is the protocol to be followed by any police of different state before going in for an action in different state. The local state govt must be informed for any police action against person/persons by the police of different state. The issue is the Mumbai police have definitely floated the law in this regard! Better you first understand the law of the land!

permit for mumbai by Babulal Bagul on 04 Sep 2012

Though not such kind of permit which is legally correct, but some restrictions are necessary, because take one illustration of yesterday's(1st Sept.) on ABP news channel what statement is made..Every body (Maharashtrian) should touch the feet of the Biharis and take their Blessing." - His Highness KIRTI AZAD, M.P. BJP (Bihar). It is the hight, what one can say about this kind of attitude?

Ignorance ???? by Citizen on 04 Sep 2012

Biharis in India by Dinesh on 04 Sep 2012

Its high time for all biharis to have introspection that why a state so rich in the natural resources and talent is faring so badly? Its high time that all bihahris should exert ownership of bihar and use all the coal, iron, and other minerals only in bihar. Any industry using these resources should set up bases in bihar. No product of bihar should go out of bihar and that will help biharis to earn their livlihood in bihar. Think of it, if they have manpower and material, then they only need management to have a successful industrial state. That will be a hard slap on the cheeks of idiots like thackrays.

Does anybody understand politics? by Rajesh on 04 Sep 2012

What was the need of Mr Nitish Kumar for raising an objection for arrest of criminal from Bihar? Patronising criminals happens in Bihar and if someone arrest the criminal, these politicians interfere? This is the basic reason for the condition of Bihar today as it is? Bihari piliticians also want to behave the same way as they are running their own state. Patrinising criminals will lead to deterioration of Law and order in long run which is the USP of mumbai. Please let the police do their job and Mr. Nitishji you please concentrate on doing your own job, you have lot to catch up

Uddhav Thackeray wants permit system for Biharis in Mumbai by vasoo kamulkar on 04 Sep 2012

We have respect for the BJP leader, Shri Shahnawaz Hussain and agree that the Constitution allows all Indians to go and reside anywhere - AA SINDHU (?)SINDHU PARYANTAA- from Kashmir (?) to Kanyakumari. But does the Constitution allow for supplanting Bihar over Mahaaraashtra? If 'YES' then let us remit Mahaaraashtra off the Map of Hindusthaan and create a new state of Mahaabihaar or Navbihaar. But this situation might never arise. Raj and Uddhav should be mindful that if the God grants elbow-strength to Imam Bukhari, Azam khan the Socialist, Abu Azmi the Most Secular, E. Aboobacker of SIMI-SDPI and Asaduddin Owaisi the Patriotic MP; then the whole outfit would soon be renamed %u201CBrihanpakistaan%u201D! Be prepared for %u2018Barsa%u2019 Razaq and Uddin Thackeray!

Stop this nonsense by Sarma Bhamidipati on 04 Sep 2012

This fellow and Raj should be tried for hate speech. They are good for nothing guys. If all other states start targetting Marathis then who is responsible for this. They are playing dirty politics and should be given maximum punishment.

DIvde by ramola on 04 Sep 2012

It is matter of regret to see such comments , afterall who is target audiance.any thinking person can see the game they are playing.Only nation stands to lose, individual may win.

Hate speeches should be banned! by Deepa on 04 Sep 2012

The so-called custodians of the legacy of Chatrapati Shivaji are nothing but a bunch of hooligans. All of us are Indians first! Period! Did any of the commandoes who saved Mumbai during 26/11 have permits to carry out operations? Or should the MNS first have checked their regional origins before allowing them to land in Mumbai to save Mumbaikars and other "human beings"? Is this the India that we live in? Are Maharashtrians only living and earning in Maharashtra? If we go by what these jokers say, all Indians would require passports and visas to travel from one state to another. @Mr. Jayanarayanan, who gave you the "permit" to talk shit on this forum? Just shut up and show some respect for the Indian Constitution. A non-bihari Indian!

Stop personifying Thackrays by Om on 04 Sep 2012

With both Thackreys getting all media attentions, they must be happy about what they are doing. Why media needs to highligh everything these two local goons say just for the heck of publicity. They will remain and act like local dogs. Do they ever realise that not all so called Marathi Manoos get thier livelihood from Bombay or for that matter Maharashtra. Stop personifying them. I also feel really sad that both state and central governments are impotent so far as stoping such anti social elements.

open letter to all fellow INDIANS by rohit on 04 Sep 2012

my dear fellow INDIANS, in which ever state of this great country you live and work, please remember we all are INDIANS first..today for the political gains..some parties are dividing us, if someone has done something wrong( illegal) or a crime..it does not matter to which state he belongs or which language he speaks..he still remains a criminal. it does not in anyway mean that people who commit crime belong to a particular state. crimes our commited in each and every state and yes even in maharashtra also. the biggest power of our country is its UNITY & DIVERSITY. we should not allow these selfish politicians of any state or any part of this country to divide us. JAIHIND!
