Upper income limit for OBC creamy layer may be doubled

Agencies

Posted: Jun 30, 2008 at 1418 hrs IST

New Delhi, June 30: In a move that could allow reservation benefits to a larger section of Other Backward Classes (OBC), the upper income limit for creamy layer to be excluded from this category is likely to double up.

The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) will submit a report in this regard to Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar on Tuesday.

"We will submit our recommendation on the new ceiling tomorrow. Before this, commission members will finalise ceiling amount," said NCBC member secretary Luxmi Chand.

Sources in the Commission said the NCBC has submitted its assessment report and the ceiling is likely to be fixed around Rs 5 lakh annually instead of the present Rs 2.5 lakh.

The first ceiling for OBC reservation was fixed at Rs 1 lakh annually in 1993.

With prices of commodities rising manifolds and income level of OBCs rising in monetary terms, the demand to raise the ceiling was pending for long.

Those OBCs belonging to the creamy layer cannot claim benefits, including reservation in jobs and professional courses that are available to rest of the category.

The NCBC, which functions under the Union Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment, had sought views of all state backward class commissions on the ceiling amount.

Dear Sir, I am working in a PSU. My own annual income is about 3 lacs. My father's income is about 1.5 lacs and my brother's income is about 2.5 lacs. So total of my family income exceeds the upper ceiling for Non creamy layer OBC i.e. 4.5 lacs. But my own income including my father's income is less than the prescribed limit. So please let me know, whether am I eligible for the benefits of non creamy layer OBC quota. Please reply.

The upper limit should be around 3 lakh so general candidate can not be weep. it is injustice .i don't say resertation should be ban but creamy layer salary should be minimized.........

Hike More by ilarum on 17 Jul 2010

To get job facilities, to get admission in higher studies, technical institutions, and to represent in all fields, just remove / ban entry of all general category people particularly, brahmins and baniyas from their jobs and colleges, educational institutions, in the first instance. Thereafter, all such vacnacies arised, can be filled up with reserved candidates. Even after any Commission feels that still BC/OBC etc., are not geting due representation, in the society, hike the income limit i.e for creamy layer upto 1000 Crore per annum. I think by that time each and every category i.e 'reserved' will get social justice. Finally, Dont allow General Category in the main stream. This suggestion is certainly make every caste in happy mood. Thanks.

Upper income limit for OBC cremy layer may be increased to 25% only. by Dr.Sankabattula Venkata Rao on 01 Apr 2010

The upper income limit for OBC category should not increased to more than 25% which is the true inflation rate of India. Many rich people are enjoying this previlage already-their reservations need a scraping from the OBC list as they crossed the poverty line.Such things are helpful to really poor and needy.
