Vadra hits back: ‘Kejriwal’s charges false... bid to gain cheap publicity’

DLF response full of half-truths and lies: Kejriwal

New Delhi Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, today rejected all allegations regarding his property dealings with DLF as “false, entirely baseless, and defamatory”, maintaining that Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhushan were trying to “manufacture lies against me and malign me and my family” to get “cheap publicity”.

Meanwhile, Corporate Affairs Minister M Veerappa Moily rejected Opposition BJP’s demand for an inquiry into Kejriwal’s allegations, saying “every maligning campaign cannot be followed by an investigation” as there is no substance in the allegations.

A day after he said he would “handle all the negativity”, Vadra today issued a statement saying that he is a private law abiding citizen who has been engaged in business for the last 21 years. “The allegations levelled against me by Shri Kejriwal and Shri Bhushan are utterly false, entirely baseless and defamatory. My business transactions are fully reflected in financial statements filed before appropriate government authorities in compliance with the law. They are available in the public domain to anyone interested in knowing the truth,” he said.

“I am saddened by the attempt of Shri Kejriwal and Shri Bhushan to deliberately misrepresent numbers contained in my financial statements, manufacture lies against me and malign me and my family in order to gain cheap publicity for themselves and for the launch of their political party,” said Vadra.

His statement came a day after DLF rejected the allegations that it had given unsecured loans to Vadra or there was any quid pro quo.

But Kejriwal kept up his attack today. “DLF has issued a response. It is full of half truths and lies. A lot of information has been suppressed. We will issue a detailed response tomorrow. But does Vadra stand by DLF response or does he have another version. Would appreciate his version,” he tweeted.

Asked about the demand for an inquiry into the charges, Moily told The Indian Express: “Till today, there is no proof at all. People will have to understand why Kejriwal is doing it. He is trying to destroy the edifice of all the institutions in the country and image of all political leaders so as to himself emerge as a leader. He is trying to practise Goebbels (Adolf Hitler’s propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels) theory but India is not Germany and our democracy is well-nurtured.”

He added: “Every corporate transaction cannot be suspect. There has been no complaint nor is there any proof of the allegations made by them. Without proof, every maligning campaign cannot be followed by an investigation.”

In Nagpur, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar today reiterated the party’s demand for an inquiry saying that those involved should put forward “concrete clarification” on the charges. “A company (DLF) which itself has a loan to the tune of Rs 22,000 crore and is paying an interest of 15 per cent thereon, was extending interest-free loans worth Rs 65 crore to Vadra,” he said. Asked why the BJP did not raise the issue earlier, he said the BJP had given notice in Parliament, but was denied permission (for discussion).

“The concerned parties should put forward concrete clarification on the matter to put an end to the issue. If there is an iota of truth in it, then that should be revealed to the public. If it is false, then that should come out too,” said BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

As Mr aBhadra is linked to India's first family directly then he is entitle to do any type of hooping unethical transaction to gain over the years be it 2fold or 200fold. No such agencies as are being demanded by the enimies available in our g8 country who can prove any politician past/present, their blood relative or just acquantence of guilty of any scam, fraud etc. Just we people are wasting our valuable time which we can devote to some dharma like Cricket. Enjoy men....

Vadra vs IAC by R.RANGAN on 08 Oct 2012

Vadra has not said anything that Tiwary,Salman,or Chidambaram have not said !! Instead they should have explained how Vadras estate grew phenominally in just 3years! That could have silenced IAC!Mere denial or attributing motives to others does not help! Any shady deal between him and DLF attract legal action and punishment even under Company law.Hence Public interest.

Vadra hits back by DPKarkara on 08 Oct 2012

One wishes the title should have been 'Vadra clarifies'. It is a very sad commentary on the way even our most powerful people react in a manner that such is making some charges against him to gain cheap publicity or gain mileage for political reasons. High position in public life devolves on the holder the responsibility to maintain ethics even if some other party is being irresponsible or unreasonable. If the insinuations made are wrong the best way is to ignore them. If these are serious enough or the person making them is of importance these should be denied graciously instead of entering into a worldly duel. Let the truth come out automatically. Congress and its leaders have forgotten that grace which was the strong trait of the party. Now the party does not not bother even when some of its spokespersons get abusive. In Vadra's case they are jumping the wall with sycophantic statements. How Vadra says he is a private citizen when he enjoys rank of Cabinet Minister?

Vadra hits back: ‘Kejriwal’s charges false... bid to gain cheap publicity’ by sivaramanenator on 08 Oct 2012

Then he should also explain how his realestate company earned 300 crores with a capital of 50 lakhs! And How a public listed company gave him crores of advances without observing Prudential norms & prefere him over more than a Billion Indians! All share holders of DLF are grieving.

of course vadra would hit back by ashok pai on 08 Oct 2012

what did we expect ? vadra would sit quiet and watch ? but no one ever knows how he became rich so quickly. I wonder.

Vadra and DLF crores by Kolsat on 08 Oct 2012

If Vadra is aggrieved by Kejariwal's accusation which he considers baseless then he should sue Kejriwal and let the court decide. Merely proclaiming innocence does absolve him of corrupt behaviour. He should come clean and show how he rose to such high financial status since his marriage to Sonia's daughter? If he was a clever businessman then how come he did not become so fabulously wealthy before the marrying Priyanka.

Kejriwal by CLZ on 08 Oct 2012

Why are you getting upset Mr. Vadra. Be bold and insist for an immediate enquiry by an investigating agency and come out clean to prove yourself. Maligning each other is a matter of routine in politics. If Kejriwal proves his stand of you having been benefited by some one or some agency under the influence of a particular party in command, no one will listen to you. Better prove your innocence.

Vadra by dilip mahanty on 08 Oct 2012

Why is Congress so desperate to project Kejriwal as the offender in this case?He is merely the messenger showing old public documents to question Vadra-DLF nexus, something BJP could have done earlier but did not as it wanted the gravy train to continue rolling! Now the game is exposed, why is the media sympathising so much with Vadra instead of questioning him? After all DLF is a public company with investments in it from "aam admi". Can a public company hand out investors' money to private individuals/companies with no security? Which public company does this? If it does, is it not flouting the Companies' Act? Did the shareholders approve of such an unsecured loan? If DLF can produce the minutes of such an approval then it can claim to have conducted its business in a proper way however risky it may be.Otherwise why should the shareholders be forced to pay a Rs 300 crore dowry to Jamai babu? What benefit are they deriving from this?
