Kolkata The vice-principal of a reputable missionary school in Hooghly’s Bandel town was arrested on Wednesday for severely beating up seven Class IV students, all around 10-11 years old, as they were decorating their class on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.

Three of the seven students suffered head injuries and had to get stitches at a local hospital.

The incident took place at Bandel’s Don Bosco School when the students were decorating their classroom for the celebrations and playing with foam spray.

According to the police complaint lodged by the parents of the students, Vice-Principal Subir Mondal entered the classroom, immediately snatched the foam spray from the students and hit them with it. Three students — Ishan Das, class monitor Subrata Rudra and Aritra Sengupta — received serious injuries.

“The students were playing with foam spray and spraying the liquid on each other. At that instance, Father Mondal entered the class and tried to settle the students. In his attempts to put the class in order, he snatched the can and threw it. Unfortunately it hit the two students,” said Father K Matthew, the principal of the school, who termed the injuries as “minor”.

He said the school had forwarded its report to the Don Bosco Mission. “We will wait for the response of the authorities on the incident,” he added.

Kaushik Das, father of Ishan, said his son had to get two stitches on his head. “I lodged the complaint with the police because I want the vice-principal to be punished so that such incidents are not repeated,” Das said. “My son is the monitor of the class and he was trying to calm down the excited students,” he added.

This is not the first time Mondal has found himself in such a situation. Sources in the school said the vice-principal has a history of subjecting pupils to corporal punishment. “He was with the Liluah Don Bosco School from where he was transferred here after he faced similar trouble there,” said a school staffer.

These kind of inhuman behavior and activity is shame on our state and Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan these teacher( vice-principal, Subir Mondal) through missionary background or through political party channel . Father K Matthew, the principal of the school, comment in this the injuries as %u201Cminor%u201D injuries can be minor can be fully heal up but incident is not minor this kind of attitude can encourage more violent incident in the school within teacher and student. School board should fired him and state government can ask Subir Mondal to return and surrender all educational qualification certificate achieved by him and also can offer and help him to get a job in slaughterhouse in the state.
