The commission also warned the slimming centres not to guarantee weight loss to people because body metabolism varies from person to person.
Shipra Sachdeva, a resident of Kotkapura, claimed that she had taken up a slimming package to reduce 20 kilograms and deposited Rs 33,000.
Despite following the strict diet and exercise schedule prescribed by the VLCC for 8 months, she could manage to reduce only 12 kilograms.
The VLCC officials then asked her to opt for another package to reduce 6 kilograms and charged Rs 6,400 more. But despite following the same routine, she failed to get the desired results.
On the other hand, the VLCC officials claimed that the complainant did not follow the prescriptions. She also failed to attend the exercise session in time and therefore, failed to achieve the desired and promised results.
The commission found that the complainant had followed the prescription and took no long breaks in the exercise sessions. They found that the VLCC deficient in the services and directed to pay the compensation to the complainant.
