Why Anant Goenka Should NOT be a journalist. by Raj on 24 Dec 2012

Name an MP, who in their job has achieved even 1% of what sachin has as a cricketer representing India did. I guess writing about our actual existing MP's performance and if they deserve to be MP's or not is difficult. That would take efforts, courage and journalistic skills. Taking a cheap shot at someone famous and noncontroversial, who represents India internationally like say a UN ambassador is easy. He has to express opinion on every question posed because people like you who have a badge and a pen are struggling to feel relevant? Amir and sharhrukh? Really is that your benchmark? What about Salman Kurshid Or Robert Vadra? So if folks like you can write, forget sachin, Harbajhan can be an astronaut. India has not been winning because our MP's. Sachin being an MP will only do good and no harm. You should focus on Lok Sabha MP's. If that is difficult, watch movies of your favorite stars and feel happy about their and our MP's rubbish opinion.

Logic must not miss the goal of Argument. by Aditya on 24 Dec 2012

I think those who love India more then they love Sachin, should take this article in good faith . This logic is not finding any base if others are not performing there duty why should my loved one is expected? The answer is your loved one is not only your loved one, he might be deadly loved by this journalist and in that circumstance he has all the right and wisdom to explore Sachin's competence as a Rajya Sabha MP.

Competence by raj on 24 Dec 2012

If its about exercising a right, then considering the circumstance, this is also exercising the right and wisdom to explore this article writer's competence to evaluate anyone else. Journalist, Wisdom, love of india? Come on! they dont belong here. Exercising a right is hardly journalism. Opinions should be in blogs. Its funny that while the writer can make a statement about someone as accomplished as sachin, making a similar comment about his competence, capability and credibility is evoking a reaction.

Sachin by Nripinder on 23 Dec 2012

I think that this article is right on the mark. Most Indian's prefer their "Gods" to remain silent so that they can quietly get on with distributing Prasadam and minting money in the God's name. Likewise Sachin as is evident from the company he keeps is much too taken with his status as a Super Rich Sportsman to court any controversy

arj1984 by arjun on 07 Jun 2012

Although I dont discredit your opinion completely, i think your fully disregard Sachin's desire and commitment to accomplishing seemingly unattainable goals which is something our politicians lack. Instead of portraying him in a negative light as a politician, perhaps he should be encouraged as his (brand) name is inherently more credible and valuable thank any of the khans. I think you are a very talented writer (yes I know who you are Mr Goenka) and this is an early stage in your career, but I think you should write more about issues you genuinely think are relevant as opposed to something is a good controversial read which will get more likes on FB. If you have the "guts" to write an article like this about Sachin I have no doubt you have the courage to write about more prominent issues that are less celebrity oriented and aim to address issues that genuinely effect the common man in INDIA!!

Sachin, a Secret Ballot by K S Srinivasan on 07 Jun 2012

Not making it public does not mean, Sachin can not take a stand on issues dear to the Nation. Even in Parliament known affilates are asked to cast their votes on secret ballot. Why? to ignore affilations and known stand and to go by conscience on critical issues. This Sachin will do in every issue coming up in the RS. So, He will score not scare in his new job as well.

Our political ethics... by SK Iyer on 06 Jun 2012

Our political ethics are very simple: The people of India have to serve their political and bureaucratic bosses irrespective of whatever they are. Just vote and pay taxes and sit back. The rest they will do. They have been doing. And we are here: Among the men who produce nothing, who get rich easily by graft without working, who deals in money and not in goods, whose laws no longer protect aam aadmi against them but protect them against aam aadmi.... Produce runs when in form and be a real INDIAN! Jai Hind! Short Live Aam Aadmi!!

All tabloid journalists should be RS members by Nik on 06 Jun 2012

Tendulkar's job is to score runs for his country. And he has done bucketloads of that. His job is not to entertain journalists, people who read them and TV anchors. He got RS job based on what he does and he does it well. If asking questions on controversial matters is the selection criteria, then all journalists should get nominated to RS. Sheesh.

Sachin deserves to be in Rajya Sabha by Vishal on 06 Jun 2012

Writer's logic can be applied to Lata Mangeshkar and Rekha as well. Such discrimination in our country is reserved only for Sachin n Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Reply to Vishal by Anant Goenka on 08 Jun 2012

Vishal, thank you for your comment. Yes, this logic can be applied to other RS MPs who haven't made any significant contribution to a larger conversation but I am inclined - as I think are others - to hold India's most talented batsman who enjoys a God-like status, to a higher standard. Wouldn't you be?

Quiet, doesn't take sides - Precisely by Ram Sekhar on 06 Jun 2012

That's why we need more like him. We have a very badly fractured and polarised legislature. What you need is people who CAN actually bring the two sides together and not be biased enough to swing to any one side. I would try Tendulkar and more of them to see how that works. Probably having some MPs who CAN FOCUS would be the best way out of the policy paralysis this newspaper has been highlighted over the past many months!

Why Sachin Tendulkar shouldn't be an MP by Krishnan on 06 Jun 2012

Very well written and convincing article. But who decides about nominated members? Are they really concerned that these guys should contribute, No and that is why you have Rekha and Tendulkar and not Amir Khan and Shabana there.
