WikiLeaks' Julian Assange says US gave 'tacit approval' to embassy attacks

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has accused the US of undermining the safety of all diplomatic mission by accepting UK siege on Ecuador's mission in London.

Washington Whistleblowing website WikiLeaks declared that the United States had effectively given groups an opening to attack its embassies by supporting the siege of its founder Julian Assange.

Assange, an Australian activist who founded WikiLeaks to fight official secrecy by distributing leaked documents, is holed up in Ecuador's embassy in London to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he has been accused of sex crimes.

On Tuesday, the US embassy compound in Cairo was invaded by protesters angered by an online film they saw as offensive to Islam, while the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked by armed militants.

Four US officials, including the ambassador to Libya, were killed, but WikiLeaks accused US authorities of undermining the safety of all diplomatic missions by not opposing Britain's police cordon around the London embassy.

"By the US accepting the UK siege on the Ecuadoran embassy in London it gave tacit approval for attacks on embassies around the world," the group said, in a message posted on its main Twitter account yesterday.

In June, Assange took shelter in the embassy after exhausting legal appeals against extradition to Sweden.

He fears Sweden will hand him over to the United States, where he has said he could face prosecution for treason, over his website's release of a trove of secret embassy cables and war reports from Iraq and Afghanistan.

EXPLINATION by Dr.M.M.HAZARIKA PhD on 13 Sep 2012

If we see the better side of everything being nothing exists without an opposite;so also the words as well as thought and action of one.Well,Wikileaks's Mr.Julian Assange might have no idea what exactly what he is doing but he has enough of reason to vent his anger to us;mostly to press. As far as engaging in an act of sex is an outcome of our current environment where we are getting stuck amasses everywhere; to devoid ourselves from absorbing the nectar of LOVE one bears in his or heart but yet he offered a service to the Globe of pointing out the weakness of storing data in Computers without full security addressed.Look, what wrong we are doing to Holy KORAN by doing wrong interpretation of it which was left to the devotees to arrange it to expand LOVE but we did the opposite to see a contraction of it to allow hatred a free release amongst us.Accordingly we most humbly pray the entire concerned Authorities to give a re-look into the matter; so that Justice is done to him

Julian Assange is pathetic. by Nate on 13 Sep 2012

Pardon me for being an American, and being blunt in what I have to say: What comes out of Julian Assange's mouth, bears as much resemblance to truth, as horse&^%* does to roast beef. This enrages me so much that he would say this. To go to this new low. In case you missed the news, a US ambassador is dead and several others dead, in a terrorist attack on September 11th, 2012. On an anniversary of an attack that killed thousands of Americans eleven years ago. Julian Assange has the gaul to claim this attack happened because the UK isn't letting him escape extradition (which is somehow the United's States fault?). Bear in mind, this is a man who wants everyone else to be accountable (except for himself), who claims that everything that has happened to him is an international conspiracy (which doesn't hold water), a man who sexually assaulted two women and fled from justice, and is a master manipulator. I give my congrats to Julian Assange as a professional bottom feeder.

Wikileaks needs to be seen in perspective by Shubs on 13 Sep 2012

Though this particular conclusion drawn by Wikileaks is preposterous, it only feeds hypernationalists in the US, like Nate above, to dismiss everything that Wikileaks has done till today as horse-manure. In what conceivable way has the US been harmed by the cables released by Wikileaks? I guess the fuming and frothing at the mouth by "patriotic" Americans is solely due to the fact that their internal communication was hacked into, and their much ballyhood technological guardwalls were broken. But were there any shocking revelations, anything that any educated person versed in geopolitics did not already know? Americans should realize that the most of the world approaches geopolitics in a realistic way, knowing that powers do what they do because of their own interests, because they can, not out of any altruistic interests in making the 'world a better place'. I find it only in America that citizenry are gullible enough to buy the cool aid that superpowers are the super-heros of the world, flying around to destroy evil.

A WRONG PERCEPTION ? by Dr.M.M.HAZARIKA on 13 Sep 2012

What Whistleblowing website did was just divulging of collection of observations by various Authoritative figures; working within the US Administration and not a view of the Government and hence such leaks are playing not much of effect on any;other than helping the Government of USA to be aware of the situation of how vulnerable we are, at the age of Computer and also it is an issue of a warning to all to make our Systems much more secure than ever before.USA in-fact had lost many important documents which are closely guarded as secret with knowledge of none to challenge the Country from all fronts but yet we are adamant in inflicting punishment to one, who had pointed out this deficit.Let us not hunt WikiLeaks's founder Julian Assange for any misdeeds. He in-fact helped the entire us to know about the present situation or environment under which we are living. His current disclosures may or may not be true other than airing a vent of anger against us.
