Calling names is allowed in democracy by Rohit on 30 May 2012

The PM should (as should others) be aware that in a democracy people have a right to say what they want - no matter how stupid or offensive it is. Calling PM "shikhandi" is by no means serious - PM should be ready for worse. Compare this to what politicians face in the west - but we don't see people being gagged, or textbooks being withdrawn. Our politicians have become a self-righteous lot. It is high time we show them their place - as our servants. And team Anna is doing just that - and as citizens they have a right to say what they feel. If PM (or anybody) feels offended, its their problem. If PM has any sincerity he will step down - not because of what team Anna said, but because of what has happened in his watch. Calling for a thorough investigation will be an eye-wash. Stepping down and disappearing into oblivion is the right thing to do!

what's left? by Krishna on 30 May 2012

How much public life left for him to quit?, He should have stalked some thing else :-)

How clean, Mr.Clean? by Hero Vaz on 30 May 2012

To prove the innocence he claims, the PM should have straightaway said that he was appointing an investigation team to go into the charges. He should know that that is the only way in which he can clear his name and not just by saying that he is innocent and will quit if proved otherwise. Words are not enough; action is called.

PM offers to quit if an iota of guilt proved. by Parminder Singh on 30 May 2012

The Team Anna is bent on discrediting the political system in the country without realising how much damage it is doing to India's standing in the country and abroad. Levelling allegations is an easy thing to do, proving the same is anoter. Let Team Anna go to court, as Suibramaniam Swami has done in 2G scam case, produce the papers before the court and ask for ordering an inquiry against the PM or any other Minister in his Cabinet,by Specially designated Court, and under court's jurisdiction. Mr Bhushan himself a Lawyer and need not spend money in fighting the court. What is preventing him from doing so? In fact he fears that if charges are not proved, he would be hauled on hot coal and even penalised by Court for filing frivilous case. He could even be slapped a case for defamation and punished or fined.Team Anna, don't waste time. Do it and see the result.

Be bold by Satish on 30 May 2012

Our intellectual PM, must understand that being a mute or silent spectator while his own government, its leaders, politicians, bureaucrats, for whom the PM is the ultimate authority, are involved in serious corruption, misuse of power & crimes would mean indirectly supporting them all. If he is morally, conscientiously feeling bad about the things that are happening under his nose, he should take action or quit in protest to save this nation & its people rather than saving the coteries that have become most powerful. The nation & the people expect the top leader like PM to take bold steps with guts & wits to do right things, to set right wrong things and show that wrong doing that too repeatedly since Independence would be punished and not tolerated for any reason. By not taking action or uttering a word shows one's weakness, power hungry mindset, selfishness and it implies that he is also a part of such bad things happening in the country. If MMS is clean & honest, let him walk out from his chair, then the whole world will appreciate. Owning to moral responsibility is a gentleman's behavior. Be honest to oneself & consciousness.

Honesty of PM by atis on 30 May 2012

There is no space to get irritated at questions from public, when your ministers and partners brazenly try to show arrogance at the question of authority from common people just throwing tantrums to be MPs.

Caesar's wife has to be above suspicion by Ghulam Muhammed on 30 May 2012

The main problem seems to be the difference in definition of the term 'corruption' between Prime Minister and Team Anna. For PM if allotment of mines to private companies, is a routine exercise that administration has to perform, Team India goes deeper in the modes operandi as to how the choice is made and if it entails any monetary or quid pro quo arrangement, or if the awards discriminate between different claiments, on the basis of political, regional, sectarian and/or monetary consideration. PM should submit to further investigation with magnanimity, without knee jerk indignation, even if the allegations are motivated. Caesar's wife has to be above suspicion.

Prove the charges of corruption of PM by S.N.Iyer on 30 May 2012

Team Anna seem to feel left out and are resorting to any means of getting public notice and support. The final CAG report on the Coal issue is yet not submitted. It has yet to be proved that the PM gained something illgotten personally in the process to accuse him of being corrupt. It is a pity that Anna Hazare is being led astray by the dubious advice of some young advisers. esp when the opinions of responsible legal brains like Justice Hegde are not being considered. I appreciate the PM's offer to quit his job if he is proved to be corrupt.I wish some members of the Team did the same when they have been alleged to have done something wrong.

Personal gain is not the only form of corruption. by Prasanth Vignesh on 30 May 2012

If the PM stood a mute spectator when there was corruption in this issue, he is as guilty as the hand that took the money. corruption doesnt have to be just for personal gain.....

When did we forgot our moral responsibility by Sanjay Roy on 30 May 2012

MMS is the leader of the Government and the current government is mired in multiplicity of corruption. So is MMS trying to say that he is clean and is not directly responsible for any scam. Is that a fair answer. Isn't he as much responsible for the action of his collective leadership team called the council of minister... Netizen:: Please let me understand how he be excluded from all these happening/ Although he may not be a direct beneficiary.

Not a thief but the gangleader by Ramana Murthy on 30 May 2012

Mr Singh, you may not have pocketed any loot but as the head of a gang of thieves, you are culpable. Something happening without the leader's knowledge is acceptable, but here you have been the leader of a government for two terms and you cannot claim innocence beyond the first few months. The head of a band of robbers cannot say "my men have looted and killed but I have not done any of those things myself, so I am clean".

PM by M V Chilukuri on 30 May 2012

I do not believe neither PM nor his UPA Govt after CWG, 2G, IPL, Adarsh, and Coal scams! Also, I do not believe media after radia tapes and IE after Shekar Gupta spook! Sorry, we are not morons!

Go ahead, Mr PM by SJ on 30 May 2012

Please go ahead a do that ASAP, our country will be saved by your act.... we don't want a puppet anymore...

Mr.Singh, mgt principle of ultimate responsibility by vijay on 30 May 2012

Mr.Singh though did not directly take bribes but at the same time not deter the ministers under your govt to swindle the country, resuling in massive losses to country thru' massive scams like 2G, CWG. If country is more important, Mr.Singh, your honour can become a whistle blower and identify all those who swallowed that money. Will your honour do this as a service to the country. Your honour knows the principle of ultimate responsibility and where the buck stops. Black money a/c cover up is a big achievement under your regime.

will leave politics by s kumar on 30 May 2012

who will prob? if he was incharg of the ministry at the time of allotment of so called coalblock then only he is responsibal for the loss not giving permission for prob and thretanig to resign he is black mailing the nation he never fight any ellction and is in office due to the he is installed by USA there is no other who will do what the madam says

Citizen of India by Banwari Taneja on 30 May 2012

PM has said that he will will resign and quit public life if there was any iota of truth in the charges leveled by team anna. Team anna should also come forward to say if the charges are not proved they will also quit the public life. Moreover I heard Justice Hegde said he cannot attend team meetings because he cannot afford coming and going. What about other members do they also spend from their pocket when they travel on teams work. Or they travel by economy class and charge first class.

Dr. Manmohan Singh by Mohan on 30 May 2012

Sir, You brought about reforms as finance minister which the country would always be indebted to. However, as PM, with all the pressure from Your coalition chairperson and allies, You have been used as a shield by Your own people. Since people have been getting too personal and commenting on Your own credibility, I think it is high time that You came out and prove all allegations against You were false and redeem Yourself from all the scamsters around You. Most of your allies and Your own partymen, You may agree, have allegedly cheated India and I would hate to see all those people clinging on to You desperate for cover. Sir, we need people like You and Dr. Kalam guiding India on Your own accord rather than playing into the hands of these wretched opportunists. You and Dr. Kalam would make a formidable team if only You would have "real trustworthy" people with and around You to take the great country of ours forward. Please dont let cheap people get to You on any issue. Thank You, Sir.

Not corrupt does not mean not against corruption by srinivas on 30 May 2012

Not corrupt does not mean not against corruption. As a PM you are expected to act against corruption. 2G scam happned under your watch. YSR looted close to 1 lakh crores, this happened when you are PM. Are you trying to fool the public? When would you act? After India becomes bankrupt?

Uncivilized personality of "Civil society members" by crazyking on 30 May 2012

I thought Team Anna is a "watch dog of curruption", but by looking at the language they are using to critisize prime minister without supporting evidence, they appear like "Rabid dogs" barking without knowing anything. I hope all these so called "Civil society members" will disapper within few days just like rabid dogs, before they fully show their uncivilized personality. Justice Santosh Hegdeji.... be away from these rabid dogs before they bite you....!!

PM has opened the door for scrutiny by sampat on 30 May 2012

By his statement, PM has opened the door for scrutiny into this specific and other allegations and not stopping at mere denials.

Dhritarashtraaaaaaaaaa..... by Jyotie on 30 May 2012

PM is equally responsible for the corruption of Kauraba clan ( UPA Minister along with Cong party). He closed his eyes like Dhritarashtra in Mahabharat to corruption to happen. Leader is responsible for his bad or good deeds. Cheers friends .......This happens in all the ages, darkness will go soon...........

WILL QUIT... PM by Bhagwat Goel on 30 May 2012

PM MANMOHAN SINGH HAS NO PUBLIC LIFE THAT HE CLAIMS HE WILL LEAVE. ONE ELECTION THIS GREAT ECONOMIST FOUGHT THAT TOO FROM MOST LITERATE CONSTITUENCY OF SOUTH DELHI, HE MISERABLY LOST. HIS ENTRY IN RAJYA SABHA IS ALSO STRICTLY THROUGH ILLEGAL,IMMORAL AND UNETHICAL MEANS. MRS SONIA GANDHI CHOSE HIM AS HER PROXY SIMPLY FOR THAT REASON. BHAGWAT GOEL

Mr by dkumar on 30 May 2012

You are head of the government and corruption is flourishing freely, who is responsible? If you are a just person, you should have left the government.

Sardar by oldtimer on 30 May 2012

Manmohan Singh is a blot on Khalsa. Alibaba was a Sardar of 40 Chors. This Sardar presides over thousands. If he had an iota of self respect, he would have resigned long time ago.

PM and Team Anna by EssEss on 30 May 2012

While it is clear that corruption has risen to new heights under this PM, Team Anna is not making it easier for themselves by making unsubstantiated noises. Further, Team Anna's rift (atleast as viewed from newspaper reports), is certainly not furthering the cause. Team Anna is in danger of losing the wide public support it had generated and becoming irrelevant in the fight against corruption!

Manmohan Singh by oldtimer on 30 May 2012

He doth protest too much. Alibaba was a Sardar of 40 Chor. This Sardar presides over thousands of Chors, and yet keep on denying responsibility. He has no shame. He is a blot on Khalsa. He should quit and do penance.
