Without me at helm, Bengal would have been auctioned: Mamata Banerjee (Indian Express)

Kolkata Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday claimed that she salvaged the state from the brink of getting auctioned. Addressing a rally in West Midnapore’s Belda area, she said: “The government is running because I am here. If I had not taken charge of the state it would have certainly gone for an auction. They (the CPM and Congress) should thank us for taking charge of the state. Instead of acknowledging it, the opposition parties appear before the media with faces painted with powder to criticise us,” said Mamata.

“In the 35 years’ long rule, the CPM neither developed the state nor did it provide jobs to the jobless other than its party cadres,” she said and pointed to the huge debt burden that the state government is besieged with.

Mamata claimed that her government created six lakh employment opportunities in 17 months in the state that has one crore unemployed youths. “You please wait till we get funds. Unlike the CPM, we will give jobs to 30 lakh people who are not my party supporters.”

She brushed aside allegations that the state has failed to protect the honour of women. “Things are being projected in such a manner that women are not venturing out because of threats. The reality is different from what is being told,” she said on allegations that incidents of rape have gone up in her rule.

Bengal's auction by Tutu on 17 Jan 2013

Really Bengal got very very ...... efficient CM. She is doctor cum lawyer cum singer cum painter cum magician cum beautician cum ..... what not. Fact is WB had not witnessed such corrupt, inefficient and self - centred CM who is looting bengal in both hands and let loose his pet goons to stop all short of opposition. BENGALI YOUTHS HAVE TO SUFFER FURTHER EVEN AFTER LEFT FRONT MISRULE FOR YEARS. THERE WILL BE NO HOSPITAL, NO INDUSTRY, EDUCATED YOUTHS' WILL MOVE OUT OF STATE, GIRLS AND DAUGHTERS WILL BE EXPLOITED MORE, ONLY POLITICS IN SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES AND NASTY GAME OF POLITICS BY LEFT AND TMC AS USUAL. SEEMS BENGAL IS A LOST CASE.
