In an interview to The Indian Express on Saturday, Mayawati made light of a section of BJP’s attempts to project Modi as the PM candidate by highlighting the absence of communal strife in Gujarat in the past 10 years of his rule. “But post-Godhra riots cases are still being inquired into,” she said to a question on BJP’s bid to project Modi for PM.

On Sunday, she again invoked the 2002 post-Godhra riots to assert that the BSP will never let Modi become the PM. “BJP is dreaming of making Modi the PM. My party will never let their dream succeed at any cost. Especially, it will never let this kind of person, who strengthened communal forces after the Godhra episode in Gujarat, become the PM,” said a press statement issued in her name by the BSP central office here.
She asserted that BSP will not extend support to BJP if it backs Modi for the post.
Mayawati’s unprovoked attack on Modi holds significance in the wake of BJP’s defeat in Himachal Pradesh, which reflected poorly on the saffron party’s capacity to ride anti-Congress plank without alliances in the next Lok Sabha elections.
“Our defeat in Himachal exposed our vulnerability to go it alone in the next elections. For us, it is also a lesson that the party will have to strike alliances for the next Lok Sabha polls,” said a BJP leader. “Even in Punjab, which went to polls earlier this year, it was Akali Dal’s performance that got NDA re-elected. Similarly, we cannot hope to ditch alliance with Nitish Kumar in Bihar.”
Given Nitish’s reluctance to agree to BJP projecting Modi as NDA’s PM candidate, Mayawati’s attack is a setback for the section of BJP which is keen to get Modi projected as the PM candidate.
Modiji will become the PM because masses in India have seen his honesty and dedication to serve the people of Guajrat who have elected him again and again despite all the negative propaganda against him. Now India needs him to take care of the inefficiencies and corruption at the center.
It is a sad moment that Mayawati is favouring rule of Italian lady on India. She should rethink.

It seems Mayavati is fearing that if Modi comes to power as P.M.,she may have to land in Tihar.She can't enjoy grace that she is enjoying at present under U.P.A. as a prize for bailing-out U.P.A.,probably at all costs,since real justice would take place instead of getting sheltered by UPA Govt.

For the BJP to give Modi any realistic chance of becoming the Prime Minister, the party MUST find a way to recapture Uttar Pradesh, and quickly. Unless BJP can recapture Uttar Pradesh, all the talk of sending Modi to Delhi is crap. Let Modi stay put in Gujarat, where he is doing a good job.

I am a biggest fan of Modi's Advertising strategies, I have lived in Gujarat for last 30 years, and all the claims that he projects in Media about development and all, its actually not that very true, he has the ability of showing 2 as 200 and 10 as 1000. Firstly, TATA NANO only came to Gujarat, because Mamta Banerjee's aims misfired, Gujarat was not the first choice for TATA, Secondly, even after bringing TATA NANO production unit to Gujarat, Congress has won there, simply because Modi did not deliver as promised. When Modi/BJP has lost popularity in its own Gadh (Gujarat), then how do you expect them to win all over India? When asked to list down the 10 most important developed projects in Ahmedabad, they can hardly point out 3 or 4. High unemployment rate in Gujarat is a clear example of his implementation failure. Atleast 90% of Muslims and around 50% of Hindus are against Narendra Modi, how do you expect BJP to win in the first place and secondly projecting Modi as a PM candid

Mayawati will definitely not be the decision maker in 2014 on "who will be the PM". It will be the Indian public. In 2014 the voting percentage may even touch 90 % and that will not be good news for Mayawati. Who is Mayawati to stop Modi from becoming the next PM of India. Mayawati's corruption has now reached Himalayan heights and she is supporting to the Congress in Parliament to ward off the CBI. In a modern India, people like Mayawati, who think only in terms of caste and creed, has no place. The Delhi protests by youngsters have shown that they do NOT need any politician to lead them.
