This was revealed by the principal of the college, Felix Raj. Senior officials of the college said if granted, then around 40 per cent of the seats will be reserved for the Christian students out of the minority quota of 50 per cent. But the modalities for the quota allocation has not been fixed yet.
Their contention: For Aliah University, the state government has fixed 80 per cent quota for Muslim students and 10 per cent quota for other backward communities.
Till date, the college sets aside 15-16 per cent of seats for Christian students.
A week ago, the state government convened a meeting with the St Xaviers officials and said that they might consider granting the status of a minority private university status to the college and will be fully aided by the state government. The college authorities have been asked to find out if there is similar university in any other state of the country which is entirely funded by the state government but enjoys the status of a private minority university.
