Yogeshwar Dutt flies to US for training despite injury

New Delhi Olympic bronze-medallist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, who is nursing a ligament tear in his knee has flown with the Indian team for a training programme in the USA but is unlikely to compete in the Dave Schultz Memorial tournament starting from January 31 in Colorado Springs.

Earlier in the month, Yogeshwar suffered a ligament tear on his right knee, which was operated a few years ago, but the 30-year old grappler was keen to be a part of the three-week training programme in the US. "He (Yogeshwar) suffered an injury in his right knee. But it is not serious. He will practice there. He was keen to go for the programme. How could we stop him?" Wrestling Federation of India General Secretary Raj Singh said.

Yogeshwar had consulted doctors in Mumbai and his knee has been plastered to give rest to the muscle. Following is the list of players who would be participating in the Dave Schultz memorial tournament, which will be played January 31 to February 3: Men: Sandeep Tomar (55Kg), Amit Kumar (55Kg), Rajneesh (60Kg), Yogeshwar Dutt (60Kg), Sushil Kumar (66Kg), Manoj Kumar (66Kg), Deepak (74Kg), Somveer (84Kg), Parvesh Kumar Chhikara (96Kg), Hitesh (120Kg), Manoj Kumar (55 Kg), Anil Kumar Bhariya (60Kg), Deepak (66Kg), Rajbir Chhikara (74 Kg), Harpreet Singh (84 Kg), Bhim Singh (96 Kg), Dharmender Dalal (120 Kg). Women: Shumel (48Kg), Vinesh (51Kg), Babita Kumari (55Kg), Geeta (55Kg), Shilpi Sheoran (59Kg), Geetika Jakhar (63Kg), Anita (67Kg), Jyoti (72Kg).
