Pune Yuvraj Singh showed his humane side as he dedicated his man-of-the-match award against England to the girl, who was gang raped and is now battling for her life in a hospital in New Delhi.

A budding 23-year-old physiotherapist was gangraped and manhandled in a moving bus on Sunday, an incident which shook the nation, leading to angry outburst across the country.

Yuvraj first took three wickets and then scored crucial 38-run knock in India's five-wicket win.

"I came particularly to dedicate this Man-of-the-match award to the girl who got gangraped in Delhi. It's very sad to know what has happened and the whole team is very concerned," Yuvraj said at the post-match press conference.

Yuvraj prayed that the girl should recover at the earliest.

"I do not what is the state of the girl now. I want to dedicate it to the girl and her parents. I have been reading a lot about this and this has been very disturbing. I am sure the whole of India is rooting for her recovery," Yuvraj added.

Prior to this, Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary had dedicated his MOM award against West Indies last year in Chennai to the victims who lost their lives during a fire that broke out at the AMRI hospital.

punish the wrong-doers for their gruesome act by sooryanarayan on 21 Dec 2012

thanks to our cricketer who came forward to solace the family members with man of the award to the girl who had been under gruesome act of so-called rapist or let us put it as COUNTRYS TERROIST. I condemn the act of these people who should be punished severally or inother words they should be hanged to death publically so that it will be a alaram to those who do this to students/ladies. JUST LIKE KILL THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE ENGAGED IN THIS SORT OF ACTIVITIES AND COME BACK ALONE TO SERVE THE NEEDY HUMAN BEINGS. I PRAY GOD TO GIVE ENOUGH STRENGTH TO THE GIRL TO FACE THIS WRETCHED WORLD AND COME BACK WITH GLORY

Dedicate Match? by Raj on 21 Dec 2012

Pardon me to say, but of what use is the 'dedication of the match' by Youvraj of any use to the victim? This is pure lip service. Have you donated match fees the victim? Mere dedication is of no value other than to show the media your concern. No one requires this kind of 'mere' lip service. Do something concrete. We are all good at speaking - like it is being shown after winning a match!

Yuraj, The Political Animal by FAQ on 21 Dec 2012

How politically correct! We will not have to wait long to see Yuraj in politics. Hopefully his performance in politics is much on an even keel than his cricket.

Brainless guy by shekhu on 21 Dec 2012

What is political in that? Everyone in India is outraged by incident. Only a sick mind will see politics in Yuvraj statement.

Hour of Humanity by Ashok R on 21 Dec 2012

Tryly Humane Character Yuvi. Celebraties like you have to really take such incidences head on and pressurise the frugal bureacracy & politics to come up with strong legislation to curb such incidences.

Watch what you write.. by Sadaf on 21 Dec 2012

"A budding 23-year-old physiotherapist was gangraped and manhandled in a moving bus on Sunday...." Manhandled??? MANHANDLED?? Whoa! Was the person who wrote this up running for an 'UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR' award? If so, he/she has definitely won it.
