Bhattacharjee announced this at the Writers’ Buildings on Friday. Compared to last year, the number of students being covered this year has seen an increase of over six times. The allocation of funds has also been doubled. While in 2007-08, scholarships were given to 16,563 students (Rs 14.35 crore), this year, the number of students has increased to 99,930 with an allocation of Rs 31.31 crore.
The scholarships will be handed out under merit-cum-means scholarship, post-matric scholarship and pre-matric scholarship schemes.
