After recording a cool 14.6° Celsius earlier this week, Mumbaikar’s can brace for a few more days of chill as Met department expects mercury to drop sharply over the next three to four days.

On Saturday, the minimum recorded in suburbs was 16.8° Celsius and is expected to drop further in the coming days.

Since November 19, the second coldest November day in 10 years, minimum temperatures in the city have risen, with the highest being 18°C. However, the minimum started falling again with Santacruz recording 16.8°C on Saturday, though Colaba recorded 21.6°C minimum.

Weather officials expect temperatures to drop even further, by about three to four degrees around November 28.

“In the next few days, the current temperature will be maintained. This is because right now we have easterly to south easterly winds, which come from warmer region, bringing warm air. But models indicate that by November 28, we will have north easterly winds, which will bring down temperatures sharply, as northerly winds come from cooler, northern part of the country like Jammu and Kashmir,” said S Sudevan, Director, IMD.

Meanwhile, the days continue to be quite warm with maximum temperatures having gone up to 34.6 degrees in Santacruz and 33.9 degrees in Colaba in the last few days. On Saturday, Santacruz recorded 33.5 degrees and Colaba 32.5 degrees.

However, weathermen insist this is is not unusual for November. “Maximum temperatures are only a degree or so above normal,” said Sudevan.
