The permission for setting up Diwali stalls is given by the Municipal Corporation to the shopkeepers to sell their goods three days before Diwali. As per the permission, the shopkeepers can erect tents in the road berms in front of the shops. The poles for the tent cannot be dug in the berms as it results in damage. However, none of the rules are followed.
With just a day left for Diwali, the shopkeepers made the most of the opportunity to sell their goods. Tents were erected across parking lots in most of the markets. This resulted in no place being left for parking of vehicles. Consequently, shoppers parked their vehicles on the roads. This disrupted vehicular movement.
