Kolkata Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday instructed top bosses in the civil and police administrations to act more responsibly, observing that there is scope for development.

The CM met secretaries of all departments, district magistrates and superintendents of police of all districts at Town Hall and discussed law and order as well as ongoing development works.

“The Chief Minister praised us for effectively maintaining peace during the festive season. She asked us to plug loopholes, if any, in the administration,” a senior IPS officer said. “Mamata feels the law and order situation has improved but there is scope for further development,”

The CM did not mention the recent firing in Dubrajpur and Tehatta. “She asked the officers to maintain communal harmony and inspired us to work in a coordinated way,” the officer added.

Chief Secretary Sanjoy Mitra said it was a routine meeting. Mamata has taken stock of the law and order situation and development works in districts, Mitra added.

An IAS official said the Chief Minister stressed development in three sectors - health, education and irrigation.
