According to Siddharth Dhar, Manager of Flurys, a confectionery shop in the city, Dundee and ice cakes are fast movers this year. “Yule Log cake has been specially prepared this Christmas,” he added.
Other varieties like truffle and black forest fresh cream cakes have also picked up sales. “Our cakes range between Rs 200 and 400 per pound and sales have touched nearly Rs 3 lakh per day,” Dhar said.
Many confectionaries admitted that their sales go up at least five times during this time of the year. “People have placed orders for specially designed cakes,” a shop owner said.
Premium fruit and walnut cakes are available in almost every shop. Like every year, this year too, their demand is quite high. Nahoum, another shop teeming with customers, also has many varieties of cakes on offer.
A visit to an outlet of Monginis at Park Street revealed that demand for butter fruit cake is high at this outlet. The outlet has Tree cake as a special Christmas item. Asim Nag, a cake lover, said he buys cakes every winter, especially before Christmas and he has decided to buy lots of plum cakes this year.
Cake shops are expecting more profit this year, but till now they have not come up with any special offer because they have had a brisk sale this year. According to an employee of a popular confectionery shop, special offers will be made from December 25 onwards.
