Kolkata A five-member delegation from Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Writers’ Buildings on Wednesday and praised her efforts to bring down the loss of man-days and improving the work culture as well as law and order situation in the state.

FICCI president RV Kanoria said: “There has been a sea change in work culture and law and order situation in West Bengal.”

This comes amidst growing criticisms of the government over the Haldia impasse where a cargo-handling firm had to exit following labour unrest.

Expressing willingness to work with the state government, Kanoria said FICCI would try to explore the opportunity in various sectors in the state. “West Bengal has cheap labour. Technology is also available here. We will help West Bengal to develop its industry. We are very much interested in the tourism and entertainment sector. The state has wonderful sea beach and much of it has not been discovered so far,” Kanoria said.

FICCI, according to him, is preparing a textile policy keeping in mind the huge demand of fabric in neighbouring countries. The policy draft will be given to the state government. The industrialists’ organisation will also hold investors meet at various places including Delhi and Mumbai. “The CM has positive attitude and she wants to attract investment,” Kanoria said.
