Cops suspended for leniency

Express news service

Posted: Nov 12, 2012 at 0112 hrs IST

New Delhi Several policemen were suspended for dereliction of duty after Delhi Police’s Vigilance department produced photographic evidence of encroachments in about a dozen markets across the city. “The pictures were taken from Greater Kailash, Rajouri Garden, Krishna Nagar and some other markets. Anti-national elements might plant explosive devices in these encroachments. Photographic proof of encroachments led to the suspension of around 12 police personnel. Beat constables and other senior police personnel were suspended for about three days,” a police officer said. Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat confirmed that action had been taken against some policemen. “This is an internal exchange of information between Vigilance and other departments. Action has been taken against some police officials, after we found leniency in their discharge of duty,” Bhagat said.
