Kolkata Three months after setting up the anti-corruption bureau, the state government on Thursday issued a formal notification for it, which would pave the way for its functioning. The bureau’s task will be to probe the corruption charges against the state government employees.

As per the notification, the bureau gets the status of a police station. However, it can only investigate the cases which will be recommended by the state government. “The notification states that the bureau will act like a police station. However, it cannot register complaint directly from the people. The bureau can only investigate the cases which are recommended by the government,” said a senior police officer.

However, the ACB in its proposal wanted to function like a police station so that it can register cases based on the complaints filed by people, investigate and arrest anybody.

The state government has sanctioned 40 posts, including an Inspector General,a DIG and two SP ranked officials for the bureau. At present, 20 officials have joined the duty at the bureau.
