Head-banger’s Heaven

There’s never too much of a good thing they say. The same goes for music in the city. The Kingfisher Pub Rock Fest which kicked off this Friday at the Someplace Else has brought as many as 15 bands from across the country to perform at the Someplace Else till mid-September. In it’s second tour of the city, the fest brought Delhi-based rock outfit Another Vertigo Rush which has made it’s presence felt in the Western music scene in India thanks to some aggressive online album promotion and live performances. Though the band claims that they have ‘no target audience in a place like India’ because of its niche sound, they are all set to take the country by storm.

Indigo Children, a group of fiery twenty somethings from Delhi, who have been making news with their brand of psychedelic rock invaded the city with some high-voltage head-banging. Another interesting addition to this year’s band roll would be Galeej Gurus from Bangalore. With a sound that is fresh and draws from eclectic influences like The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, eric Clapton, Deep Purple, Jon Bonjovi and Van Halen, the fest will be their first tryst with Kolkata.

Lou Majaw is no stranger to the city music addicts but his band Great Society, from Shillong, will come a whiff of fresh air amid the electric, high pitched strains of rock. And then the festival will also not keep you away from local favourites Cassini’s Division, Span, The Supersonics, Krosswindz and Insomnia.
