Irfan, the only child of his parents, is a resident of Batoi in Jammu and Kashmir. Batoi is a small village located 8 km from the nearest town of Mahore in Reasi district. It takes two hours to reach his house on foot. Janu Sharma, another boy from Akhnoor, had also been waiting for treatment for the past two years for want of funds.

Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Sarh had taken up their cases for the past two years because each operation was to cost more than Rs 2.5 lakh, and the poor families with a monthly income of about Rs 3,000 were not able to afford it. Through the active co-ordination by Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, the little patients visited Kolkata under Operation Sadbhavna along with a few more kids. Finally, Kolkata-based NGO Rotary Human Foundation came forward to support the treatment of Janu and Irfan, who were brought to CMCH. The kids were operated by Dr HS Bedi, chief cardiac surgeon CMCH, about a week back, and now they are doing well.
