The Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) has called the protest a ‘publicity stunt’. “The party leaders of PUSU, NSUI, SFI and other VIP workers who are sitting at the protest are themselves wearing expensive clothes and travel in cars costing more than Rs 5 lakh. These facts must be brought to the notice of innocent students who are being misguided and made the scapegoat,” stated a statement issued by the party. The party demanded rolling back prices of food items at Student Centre and items of mess and canteens, but not the mess meals.
