Man knocked down by bus, dies

Kolkata A man died after he was hit by a CTC bus at Rashbehari crossing in south Kolkata on Tuesday. The accident took place 40 minutes before the funeral procession of CPM leader Subhas Chakraborty reached the spot. The bus first hit Biswanath Das (37), who was on a motorcycle, and then a minibus and a taxi. According to the police, around four to five persons were injured. Das, a resident of Regent Park, was rushed to SSKM hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The police said that the brakes of the bus had stopped functioning. The bus has been impounded by the police and.driver and conductor have been detained.

Tension prevailed at Girish Park in north Kolkata after locals found Rimu Bauria (30) hanging from the ceiling of her house at 3A, Taraknath Pramanik Road on Tuesday. Rimu’s husband Chandrasekhar Bauria, a hawker, however, said that he did not have any clue why she took the extreme step. Rimu committed suicide owing to severe penury that affected the education of her only son who is in class VI, police sources said.
